Your education is just the beginning – you’ll become an active member of our Corporate EHS&S team, reporting to the Director, Corporate Environmental located in Pittsburgh, PA. During our 12-week internship program, you’ll tackle real-world challenges through impactful assignments, and work alongside our industry changemakers.
The Intern – Corporate Environmental and Sustainability (EHS) will assist corporate environmental compliance and sustainability strategists support manufacturing operations in driving improvements in waste, water, air toxics, circular economy, and biodiversity performance through analyzing data, developing policies, identifying potential solutions, planning actions, and sharing best practices.
Intern Impact Project: Leadership in CSRD
The Intern – Corporate Environmental and Sustainability will partner with very experienced environmental and sustainability professionals and representatives from many other functions in designing circular economy strategies and solutions. The Intern – Corporate Environmental and Sustainability will help the company prepare for more formal planning and disclosure of Environmental Policies Actions, Targets, Metrics, and Business Impacts. This is in preparation for sharing under the framework of CSRD ESRS E2-E5. The intern will also be involved in developing internal educational materials to increase global understanding of the importance of these topics. The policies, plan, process, solutions, and business case will be documented and presented to management at the close of the 12-week program. (alternative projects will also be considered)

In addition to your impact project work, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Analyze trends across our manufacturing operations
- Develop strategies and propose corporate targets
- Benchmark with top performing industrial peers and learn from their approaches
- Share best practices from across Howmet or other industries
- Find outlets for materials previously disposed of as waste
- Help organize data, define data management needs, deploy functionality in our new data management system, and address daily corporate environmental tasks
- Inspire manufacturing staff, by proving the business case, and teaching what you’ve learned
QualificationsYour Education, Skills, and Experience:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program with a major in Environmental Management, Sustainable Business, or Engineering with an expected graduation date in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
- Demonstrated internship, work, or research participation experience
- Strong data analysis skills, internet research savviness, and business case development
- Involved with at least 1 extracurricular activity (inclusive of campus organizations, sports, or volunteerism)
- Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Master’s degree program
- Previous industrial experience
- Interest in pursuing a career in sustainability or environmental management
- A driving passion to fix difficult challenges and persuade diverse populations
Compensation for this internship opportunity ranges between $20- $22 per hour. (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
A relocation stipend in the amount of $3,000 will be provided to students located 50+ miles from the physical location of the internship.
