Description
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Sustainable Development Intern will assist the Sustainable Development department with a wide range of projects related to entry-level work in various aspects of the Department. Work may include coordinating the dissemination of departmental and City information, developing filing systems, and performing internal project-related support work. Must be comfortable working independently, as well as in a team environment. Work is performed with limited supervision and is periodically reviewed by supervisor.
This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills he or she may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that Sustainable Development can play in a municipal setting.
SCHEDULE:
Must be available to work Monday - Thursday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Participates in planning projects as assigned through various divisions within the department
- Keeps a record of and reports to supervisor on all work being assigned by various managers
- Researches information related to assigned projects
- Makes and receives calls associated with duties assigned
- Collaborates with other departments for pertinent information
- Attends meetings as assigned by supervisor
- Composes routine correspondence, memos, etc. using word processing software
- Assists with budget preparation as needed
- Scans, photocopies, and distributes a diverse range of City documents
- Prepares spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations as needed
- Assists with sorting and filing documents
- Maintains, organizes and scans records and files
- Interacts with various groups of people including, but not limited to, City employees, managerial staff, the general public, etc. with a professional and courteous demeanor
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications

- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and follow-up skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently
- Must be able to pass a background check and all Coconut Creek pre-hire criteria
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Enrolled as a degree seeking degree-seeking student by an accredited local college (Bachelor's or Master’s preferred)
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must maintain an active status as a student throughout the internship
- Must have an overall GPA of at least 2.5 (transcript)
- Must be in good academic standing (transcript)
- Must attach unofficial transcript from last semester to be included with the online application

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials (up to 20 pounds).Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Tasks are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife/vermin/insects, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
Field visits may be required with supervision.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Some tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors.
