As an EMT, you will render first aid, maintain public calm during emergencies, and provide assistance to emergency personnel as required. You are also responsible for patrolling the Zoo grounds and surrounding areas to prevent theft, violence, and other infractions. An EMT also assures operating equipment at our Butterflies, Tomistoma, and Crocodiles exhibits such as pumps, blowers, heaters, air conditioners, and fans are performing as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Continuously patrol all areas of the zoo, and occasionally the adjacent areas to prevent theft and vandalism. Ensure the use of proper lighting while patrolling at night.
- Provide verbal information to relief Security Officers.
- Effectively document and communicate issues, concerns, especially incidents and accidents to team members and management.
- Ensure night security keys are intact and in the proper order.
- Inspect Security equipment daily.
- Inspect fire extinguishers for charge level, location, and ease of access; take corrective action as required, and report findings to appropriate supervisor.
- Inspect construction sites on, and adjacent to, Zoo property to assure protective barriers are in place, and no apparent public safety hazards exist.
- Assure electrically and manually operated support systems, including pumps, valves, switches, and gauges, are correctly set and functioning.
- Respond to calls for assistance from the public and employees, including emergency response injury codes.
- Perform first aid and CPR as necessary.
- Prepare accident reports legibly and promptly.
- Follow all State, Local, and Federal regulations regarding EMT-Basic, Intermediate, & Paramedic protocols.
- Upholds all company policies as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct.
- Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
- Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect.
OTHER RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have or obtain a Texas Level 2 License for Security.
- One year of security-related work preferred
- Must be Texas State licensed EMT-B, I & P.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills preferred.
- Able to thoroughly, completely, understandably, and correctly complete accident reports.
- Able to handle, calmly, and effectively, various types of public contact situations.
- Able to contact San Antonio Park Police, SAPD, SAFD, Bexar County Sheriff, EMS, or other emergency agencies to, calmly, distinctly and correctly report an emergency requiring assistance.
- First Aid and CPR Certification is required
- Spanish fluency is preferred.
- Responsible for completing all online training courses by assigned deadlines.
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a clean driving record for vehicle operation.
- This position requires a valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
- Must be able to work in varying climate and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold)
- We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
