Overview
This position is responsible for inspection activities and providing instructions, technical guidance, and training to new and existing employees in the testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of moderately complex to extremely complex low and medium voltage electronic, electrical, and electro-mechanical switchboards and switchgear.
RESPONSIBILITY (Equipment or Process, Material or Product, Safety of Others, Work of Others)
· Outlines testing protocols and provides training and guidance to new inspectors of the department.
· Interacts with external Customers, Field Sales personnel and may participate in on-site inspections.
· Works closely with supervisors & engineers to ensure quality standards and shipment commitments are met.
· Interacts with Assembly operations regarding problems with wiring or mechanical assembly.
· Interacts with Engineering on a regular basis to determine appropriate specifications when discrepancies arise.
· Continuously provides input to supervision, engineering, and quality groups relative to product improvement.
· Reads and understand moderately complex to very complex blueprints, wiring diagrams, bill of materials, and schematics.
· Identifies discrepancies between customer requirements and finished product.
· Performs visual check of finished product following customer specs and/or QC report procedure.
· Performs highly complex troubleshooting and problems solving of electrical, electronic, or electro-mechanical switchboards and switchgear.
· Determines cause of errors and establishes a game plan to remedy errors to make the product in conformance.
· Utilizes a wide variety of hand tools, air tools, and measuring equipment.
· Establishes and maintains a safe and healthful working environment in accordance with OSHA requirements.
· Performs other tasks as may be requested to assure the effective and continuous utilization of assets.
· Responsible for daily and weekly reporting of inspection progress, trends, and other deliverables as defined by Structured Contracts Quality team.
JOB CONDITIONS (Working Conditions, Hazards)
· Special safety shoes designed for work in a high voltage area are required.
· Safety glasses are required.
· Additional safety attire may be required when performing electrical tests.
· Work is performed in a secured test environment in a manufacturing plant.
· Noise level is within normal and acceptable standards for environment.
· Proper use of various hand tools and cutting tools required.
· Incumbent continuously works with high voltage electricity. If proper safety procedures are not followed, severe injury or death may occur.
What qualifications will make you successful for this role?
SKILL (Education, Experience, Initiative and Ingenuity):
· Must be able to successfully take and pass appropriate Work Keys assessment.
· Advanced education such as AS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Industrial Electronics, etc.
· 5-10 years electrical quality inspection, maintenance or testing experience.
· Ability to read and understand complex blueprints.
· Ability to work independently.
· Expertise with basic hand tools, air tools, gages and torque wrenches.
· Familarity with PC’s, PLC’s, Universal Voltage Power Cart, Multi-Meter, Pulsar voltage and AMP Generator, Injection Carts for Ground Fault, Dielectric Hi-Pot Tester, etc.
· Expertise with fundamentals of quality tools and systems.
· Comforable using Excel, Word, Teams, etc. to effectively communicate progress and reports.
EFFORT (Physical Demand, Mental or Visual Demand)
· Must have excellent natural or corrected vision.
· Ability to lift up to 26 pounds.
· Job cannot be performed alternating sitting and standing.
· Ability to perform continuous repetitive motions with hands and arms.
· Requires ability to reach overhead, pull, push, and climb a ladder to perform work.
· Continuously uses great deal of independent judgement and initiative in testing.
