The ICCT is seeking a passionate Research Intern to join the organization’s Passenger Vehicle program. In this role, you will contribute to ICCT’s efforts to advance vehicle fleet decarbonization, reduce pollution, and promote related socioeconomic benefits in China. Your responsibilities will include monitoring trends in China’s new passenger vehicle fleet—such as market performance, technical specifications, and emissions—to support effective environmental policymaking. Additionally, you will evaluate the socioeconomic impacts of China’s transition to clean transportation.
You Will:
- Collect, process, and visualize passenger vehicle data, and maintain relevant databases.
- Analyze vehicle fleet trends, focusing on market, technical, and environmental performance.
- Review and summarize scientific literature and policy documents related to light-duty vehicle emission control, transport sector decarbonization, and associated socioeconomic impacts.
- Support data work, modeling, analysis, and report authoring for China’s transport decarbonization roadmap studies and other passenger vehicle research.
- Create media content related to passenger vehicle decarbonization and pollution reduction.
- Help organize outreach activities such as briefings, meetings, and workshops.
You Have:
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program.
- Preferably a major in public policy and administration, social science, economics, statistics, environmental science and policy, or information technology and management.
- Excellent demonstrated quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
- Strong data analysis and visualization skills with tools such as Excel, Python, R, MATLAB, Tableau, or other statistical and database software.
- Proficiency in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese, with strong spoken and written English skills.
- The ability to communicate effectively with an international research team.
Preferred:
- Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following fields: China transport policy, China electric mobility development, the passenger vehicle market, interactive data visualization development, or socioeconomic study modeling.
- A strong understanding of and enthusiasm for research topics related to climate change, transportation, and socioeconomic impacts.
Our Benefits
The internship is based in our Beijing office and will have a duration of 6 months, with the possibility of extending to 12 months. The ICCT will provide a laptop and other office equipment as needed. This internship offers a salary of ¥3,600 per month (120 hours a month).
