The Position:
This role supports the Maersk global environmental and sustainability objectives and ensures that the Oceania business is compliant with all license requirements and social obligations in relation to environmental and sustainability legislation, standards, and our Maersk Global strategy. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the organisation’s environmental & sustainability program, as well as assessing and identifying risks that could impede the reputational success of the organisation.
We are open to hire in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and implement relevant requirements under environmental and sustainability national/ state legislation, standards and guidelines and take lead in implementation of these at our sites.
- Coordinate activities related to environment and sustainability such as waste management, liaising with external vendors on matters related to environment and sustainability.
- Develop and implement the business’s environmental management system and associated documents.
- Nature-related risks identified and mitigated.
- Localise the Global strategy for Oceania, set clear objective and targets
- Develop collateral for customer RFQ and support submissions.
- Develop and contribute on projects related to sustainability within the logistics space.
- Support climate change risk assessments and climate adaptation practices, including decarbonisation and energy transition projects.
- Record and compile data into spreadsheets and databases, analyse, interpret trends, and identify any potential for changes in results or non-compliance with site environmental licences and/or internal commitments.
- Undertake compliance reporting, according to relevant rating system, Environmental Licences and sustainability reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
- Advisor to the Area Risk &Compliance committee.
- Collaborate closely with the Assurance and the Risk Specialists to ensure policy and compliance audits are conducted based on risk profile and exposure.
- Reviewing any new potential greenfield and or brownfield site as part of the HSSE Business case process.
- Develop training for sites to embed our strategy and deliver the objectives.
What We Are Looking For:
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental/Sustainability or a related discipline, along with 2-3 years of experience.
- A strong understanding of local, national, and international environmental laws, standards, and regulations—such as waste management, emissions, and energy efficiency—is essential.
- Strong ability to plan, implement, and manage sustainability projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.
- High level of attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Thorough understanding of policies and best practices in environment and sustainability.
- Strong research and problem-solving abilities, combined with an innovative, forward-thinking approach.
- Ability to negotiate and work cooperatively with staff, contractors, government agencies, business and other stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel within Australia & New Zealand as needed.
Preferred candidates will be required to undertake reference checks as well as pre-employment screening, including a National Police Check.
