Workplace Accidents
- Accident investigation and follow-up with department personnel and safety reps.
- Provide support for corrective actions and strategies.
- Coordinate return to work and WCB claims.
- Prepare and analyze accident records to determine root causes that need to be addressed to reduce the frequency of injuries and promote continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with enforcement agencies should they get involved following an accident.
Safety Training/Awareness
- Conduct employee orientations and address any safety related requirements for new employees.
- Develop and facilitate safety training programs and ensure all programs remain current and relevant.
- Work with department personnel and management to maintain high levels of compliance and awareness for safety and environmental issues.
- Conduct safety and environmental compliance inspections.
- Through use of newsletters, videos, handouts, seminars, toolbox talks, work to improve image, awareness, and morale in the areas of safety and environmental.
- Manage training records and knowledge requirements.
- Research and develop safety/environmental programs that will promote safe work habits and maintain compliance with all relevant legislation, e.g., Accident Investigations, Safety Inspections, Environmental Inspections, Emergency Preparedness, Ergonomics, WHMIS and related programs.
Leadership
- Help to develop, implement, and maintain a systems approach to workplace safety.
- Work closely with various levels of management to achieve safety related goals and foster a strong safety culture.
- Develop and maintain risk management approach to OH&S through system approach and mitigation.
- Continuously assess company’s OH&S progress and related KPIs and create strategies to resolve system gaps.
- Participate in corporate strategic planning and provide support to safety personnel in other Winpak business units.
Teamwork
- Promote teamwork, cooperation, and effective communication with all levels of the Company. Interact with all relevant stakeholders in support of Winpak’s TQI program.
- Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant with ISO 9001 standards.
- Perform back up activities for the Safety and Environmental Supervisor in his/her absence.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Regularly communicate and coordinate with the Learning and Development Department Training Specialist in order to fulfill employee safety training needs
- Work with other HR personnel as needed
- Provide detailed analysis to Advisory team consisting of company directors
- Other departments within Winpak Division
- Regularly communicate and coordinate with department Supervisors to ensure proper facilitation of safety training
- Work closely with management and other decision makers to ensure safety remains a top priority
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- 3 - 4 years Post-Secondary Studies or equivalent required
Experience
- 5 plus years in safety and health initiatives required.
- 3 -5 years hands experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work under minimum supervision.
- Ability to deal with all levels of the organization.
- Proven TQI skills, strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of Manitoba Workplace Safety legislation
- Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills.
