DescriptionBHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity as a Sr. Environmental Specialist at our headquarters in Glen Allen, VA.
Responsibilities
- The Sr. Environmental Specialist independently provides subject matter expertise in the area of water quality; rare, threatened and endangered species, cultural resources, environmental justice, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulated natural gas projects. The position would advise the Company on environmental matters as it relates to regulatory compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements of various projects.
- Provides expert technical support to the Company to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and compliance with corporate policy. This includes reviewing proposed projects for required permitting and licensing and developing strategies to ensure projects are designed to comply with various local, state and federal environmental regulations.
- Leads coordination of environmental clearances for linear natural gas and facility expansion projects by managing a team of environmental consultants from inception to permit close-out.
- Analyzes environmental regulation changes that may impact the company and advise on strategies to adjust internal policy to ensure compliance.
- Mentors junior staff on interpreting and implementing environmental regulations.
- Develops internal department policy to ensure changes in regulatory landscape are incorporated into guidance documents and compliance programs.
- Represents company at various industry trade groups and committees.
- Develops and conducts environmental compliance training.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 10 years relevant experience in the natural gas or linear utility industry in the following areas:
Endangered Species Act, Section 7 Formal/Informal Consultations;
Environmental Justice review of projects;
Section 404 and 401 Clean Water Act Permitting;
Section 106 National Historic Preservation Act Consultations;
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Section 7 filings;
National Environmental Policy Act review ; and
State natural resource permitting and consultations in South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and/or New York.

Bachelor (Typically four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
