This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Salary:(Step 01) to (Step 10) GS-05: $46,146 to $58,686 GS-06: $50,326 to $58,686 GS-07: $55,924 to $72,703 NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Biological Science Technician (Fisheries) within the Eastern Ecological Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: Assist in ecological investigations on a river/stream, in a boat, wet lab, unheated flume/hatchery facility or other field environment. Rear fish in ponds, tanks, and raceways and preform associated laboratory maintenance and animal care protocols. Install, configure, and operate radio and passive integrated transponder (PIT) telemetry system; perform system operation checks; and retrieve data. Work with others as part of a team to accomplish goals. Assist scientists and engineers in collecting, assessing, and evaluating experimental data. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring running, walking, or bending, walking or climbing ladders or scaffolds to observe, collect or record data. Work requires regular physical exertion including lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and participating in field work at remote sites. WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment varies from laboratory setting to field sites and offices. The work involves moderate risks and discomforts such as high noise levels and exposure to chemicals, adverse weather conditions, and extreme temperatures that may require following special safety procedures.
