POSITION OVERVIEW:
Boyd Jones is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the execution of large-scale, utility-grade solar projects within our Utility Scale Division (USD). This role will focus on managing complex, multi-million-dollar projects (50 MW+), ensuring that all deliverables meet or exceed key performance metrics related to safety, quality, schedule, and financial outcomes. The Senior Project Manager will serve as the primary liaison with clients and external stakeholders while leading cross-functional internal teams to drive successful project delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Project Leadership: Lead the end-to-end execution of utility-scale solar projects, from planning through to closeout, ensuring alignment with project goals and overcoming complex challenges along the way.
- Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, internal leadership, and external stakeholders, ensuring clear, timely, and accurate communication across all parties.
- Budget Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive project budgets, ensuring effective financial control, cost management, and support for cost-reduction initiatives. Regularly participate in financial reviews to optimize project profitability.
- Schedule Management: Create, manage, and track detailed project schedules, proactively identifying potential risks and delays while implementing solutions to maintain project momentum and meet deadlines.
- Risk Management: Develop and implement comprehensive risk management plans, ensuring thorough mitigation strategies are in place to address potential project challenges.
- Contract Management: Review and understand contract terms to ensure full compliance with all project requirements. Work closely with the project team to minimize risks of disputes and conflicts and ensure contract fulfillment.
- Coordination & Execution: Oversee the coordination of design, permitting, material procurement, and subcontractor activities. Ensure alignment across teams and contractors to maintain safety, quality, and efficiency on-site.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor diverse project teams, ensuring effective delegation and project execution. Foster a collaborative and results-driven environment while providing coaching and guidance to team members.
- Quality & Safety: Ensure the highest standards of safety and quality are upheld on the job site, in accordance with company policies and industry best practices.
- Travel Requirements: Travel to project sites as needed (up to 50% of the time), ensuring close oversight of project progress and maintaining strong client relationships.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, with a strong background in utility-scale solar EPC projects.
- Construction Knowledge: Deep understanding of electrical, structural, and civil construction processes, along with the ability to navigate complex project requirements.
- Software Proficiency: Strong experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6; familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, Salesforce, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Leadership & Decision-Making: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, make informed decisions under pressure, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Contract & Construction Administration: Thorough knowledge of construction contracts, administration, and regulatory requirements. Strong understanding of utility and AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) interactions.
- Safety Standards: Solid knowledge of construction safety protocols and OSHA regulations; OSHA 10 or 30 certification required.
- Travel: Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to manage projects on-site and interact with stakeholders.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certifications: PMP, CCM, or similar project management certifications.
- Technical Expertise: Experience with medium and high-voltage interconnections and utility grid integration.
- Contract Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills, particularly in contract management and conflict resolution.
- Process Improvement: Experience in implementing quality improvement initiatives or lean construction principles to drive efficiency.
