MAJOR DUTIES: This position is located within the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) with one vacancy located in Ann Arbor, MI. As a Research Biologist, you will perform the following duties: Formulate and conduct research on metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, environmental DNA and RNA, genetic analysis and/or bioinformatics focused on characterizing and identifying cellular function and/or relationships to biotic and abiotic drivers in aquatic environments. Perform data analysis, such as metagenomic and transcriptomic assembly, binning, annotation, mapping and comparisons of metagenomes and metatranscriptomes. Develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines and databases for microbiome and 'Omics data. Use advanced knowledge of `Omics and bioinformatics principles and methods, incorporating vessel-based, shore-based, and laboratory measurements and experiments on components of aquatic ecosystems of the Great Lakes and other coastal ecosystems.
