Our client, a leading Manufacturing/Production company based in Durban, is looking to fill the position of Environmental Manager.
Purpose of the Role:
The successful incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the various issues relevant to environmental activities supporting the decision making structure. They will also be responsible for assisting in the preparation of guidelines, procedures, and operational standards at group level, as well as promoting the implementation of sound SHE management and preparing assessment reports on the organisation from the perspective of prevention, protection and participation in inspections, audits, and training actions. The role will require frequent travel to other operations as and when required. This role reports to the Head of SHE.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the SHE management systems in line with accreditation bodies and the group.
- Develop an environmental strategy aligned to corporate and the group.
- Set the environmental targets annually for South Africa.
- Identify, recommend, and influence appropriate actions for the environmental strategy.
- Assist in the preparation of the SHE guidelines, procedures, and operational standards at group level and within corresponding areas of activity.
- Transference of this knowledge from policies and procedures and guidelines.
- Promote the implementation of guidelines, procedures and operational standards pertaining to SHE.
- Ensure that all incidents occurred within the BU are recorded for their analysis and the corresponding corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare assessment reports to identify the deficiencies in the control measures and programs so as to support the prevention of incidents.
- Obtain detailed information from each BU regarding the environmental performance where applicable.
- Support the co-ordination of the annual external audits and the continuous improvement pertaining to the actions arising from external audits.
- Appoint the audit teams and organize the execution of the approved plans, to evaluate the corresponding reports and follow the implementation of the recommendations.
- Conduct internal audits and legal audits.
- Provide support to the business units to improve environmental matters with reference to educating and reducing risk.
- Ensure all business units are legally compliant.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 Senior Certificate
- BSC Degree in Environmental Management
- National Diploma in Safety Management an added advantage
- 5 + years’ experience in heavy industrial areas
- Own transport is required
