This Opportunity
WSP is initiating a search for a Lead Environmental Engineering Consultant for the Rancho Cordova, California office! This person will provide environmental consulting services in support of public and private clientele. This position requires an individual with effective project management and communication skills as significant client, agency, public, and team interactions are expected. Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work on projects of variable complexity with the desire and ability to mentor and build a strong support team. This position includes both office and field work on project sites in and out of California.
WSP USA’s Rancho Cordova, California office provides a broad range of services in engineering and earth and environmental sciences. Our Rancho Cordova staff of approximately 40 engineers, geologists, scientists, and support personnel specializes in environmental planning, compliance, investigation, remediation, and toxicology. We provide comprehensive support through all phases of assessment and remediation, from preliminary screening through remedial investigation, feasibility study, remedial design, and construction oversight. In addition, we provide storm water, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and other environmental compliance services.
Your Impact
- Direct and supervise technical assignments (both field and office) and manage entire projects or specific elements of projects.
- Direct a team and perform remedial engineering activities at complex sites including former mining facilities.
- Provide technical review/oversight/mentoring of environmental engineering staff and projects/programs to assure compliance with environmental laws, company standards, contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Supervise engineering staff performing and overseeing field programs, subcontractors, and engineering projects/programs as needed.
- Oversee development and execution of project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Perform business development and marketing activities to capture new clients for WSP USA.
- Prepare proposals and assist in preparation/oversight of large-scale proposals.
- Direct and oversee staff performing calculations; direct and supervise junior and mid-level staff performing environmental engineering and remediation activities.
- Oversee and mentor staff identifying discrepancies in results obtained in work assignments and follow up with principal engineering personnel to resolve these situations.
- Responsible for performing engineering review and guidance to staff who are developing and completing technical calculations and reports.
- Represent WSP USA and interact in a professional manner with clients, regulators, and subcontractors.
- May travel to project sites primarily in California and Nevada.
- Understand and apply company, client, and site Health and Safety standards.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Civil, Sanitary, Chemical, Industrial, Agricultural, or Public Health Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in environmental engineering.
- PE (California) required.
- Qualified candidate should have experience with the following:
- Strong work ethic and must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team and achieve team objectives.
- Flexible to work outside normal business hours, as required; filed activities may require working in unfavorable weather condition or hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions.
- Must pass physical, background check and must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving (Motor Vehicle Safety) policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering
- Project Mangement Experience/Training
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
- Working knowledge of and/or experience with federal projects and CERCLA (Superfund) regulations and processes, especially with environmental feasibility studies and remediation.

Compensation
Expected Salary (California): $104,500- $155,210
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
