We are seeking a Environmental Health & Safety Senior Director to join our dynamic team of industry leading experts. Position is a hybrid of EH&S strategic program oversite at the company level and tactical execution at the facility level.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead the development and management of a comprehensive company-wide environmental health and safety program to ensure that company is in compliance with regulatory policies, procedures, and work requirements
- Implement, maintain, and execute the EH&S program that is forward looking with an emphasis on preventive policies and procedures.
- Maintain and ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state rules, regulations, and code standards; interprets regulations on relevant issues to provide practical guidance, support, and training aimed at maintaining and developing best practices.
- Direct the development and sustain a heightened level of safety awareness within the organization working closely with Value Stream Managers, Site Leaders, Facilities and Senior Leadership Team.
- Evaluate both existing and proposed processes relative to their impact on environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance. Provide EHS technical information and guidance to improve processes and systems in safety, engineering design of equipment (including equipment guarding), and new construction in the facility.
- Obtain and maintain environmental permits and licenses as well as prepare and submit the required environmental applications, reports, fees, and letters to government agencies.
- Develop and manage written EHS programs including but not limited to IIPP, HazCom, Ergonomics, Hearing Conservation Programs, Working at Heights, Forklift Safety, Contractor Safety, Emergency Action Plans, Fire-Life Safety, PPE, Hot Work Permits, Ionizing/Non-Ionizing Radiation, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, SWPPP, Hazardous Waste Operations, Waste-Water Treatment Systems, Air Permitting Compliance and Laser Safety Programs
- Manage and review loss histories and OSHA Log summaries & associated records to identify trends and make recommendation to management. Lead all work injury and illness investigations identifying root-cause and obtaining closure on countermeasures.
- Maintain records including but not limited to industrial hygiene studies & related employee communications, SDS, Master Chemical List, OSHA 300/300A summary reports, Incident Investigations, Medical Waste Permits, EPCRA Tier II, Air Permitting Compliance, DTSC, Waste-Water Treatment System Compliance, Forklift Certifications, First Aid Certifications and associated Medical Surveillance Programs.
- Conduct periodic self-inspections of the site to ensure operations conform to regulatory and Corporate standards.
- Develop and provide EHS training including new employee orientation.
- Remain current with environmental, health and safety regulatory changes. Participate in appropriate professional training and organizations.
Experience/Qualifications:
- BS in Environmental or Applied Sciences (chemistry, biology, physics), or BS Chemical Engineering
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in a Medical Device or Pharmaceutical mfg. environment focused exclusively on EHS compliance.
- Ability to effectively communicate with multi-state government officials/agencies.
- Ability to interpret and sensibly apply environmental, health and safety regulations to business operations
- Must be skilled at developing and managing key written EHS programs
- Ability to travel 50%
- Project management experience
- Knowledge of OSHA/EPA Regulations (both Federal/State)
- Comfortable using software such as Word, PPT, Excel
