The Chattanooga Zoo is looking for an HR Generalist/Payroll Administrator who will be responsible for administering the life cycle of our employees from sourcing applicants to managing employee departures. They will process employee pay, administer benefits programs, and provide guidance on training, performance management and policy development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include but are not limited to:
- Performing activities in the human resource area that include recruiting, interviewing prospective employees, onboarding new employees and conducting orientation sessions.
- Processing and issuing employee pay checks.
- Keeping track of leave time, such as PTO and FMLA, for employees.
- Completing, verifying, and processing forms and documentation for administration of benefits such as retirement plans, health benefits, unemployment and worker's compensation.
- Serving as a member of the Zoo's safety and IDEA committees.
- Ensuring required employee testing (drug test, TB test, background check) is kept up-to-date and records are maintained.
- Distributing and maintaining zoo uniform stock.
- Conferring with management to develop or implement personnel policies or procedures.
- Providing management with information or training related to interviewing, performance appraisals, counselling techniques, or documentation of performance issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in HR or other relevant field OR equivalent combination of college coursework and experience.
- Three (3) years of experience in an HR field, including one year minimum in hands-on payroll processing.
- Experience with Paylocity, ApplicantPro, Employee Navigator desired but not necessary.
Competencies
- Proficiency using Excel for storing and presenting data (eg, format/filter/function).
- Above-average organizational skills; eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Competency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office.
Licensing & Certifications
Physical Requirements
- Lifting, holding and carrying light objects.
- This position requires sitting long periods of time, but also may require occasional movement across Zoo grounds.
- This position is generally required to perform work within an office setting and occasionally exposed to external elements which include heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and extreme weather conditions.
