DEQ has an open opportunity for an Environmental Program Supervisor II.
This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.
Description of Work:This position supervises the Environmental Assistance Section (EAS).The position manages the Environmental Stewardship Initiative; oversees technical and pollution prevention assistance; conducts and leads training and outreach efforts; and oversees permit and compliance assistance in the Small Business Assistance Center and regional permit assistance programs. This position provides staff supervision, program management and development, strategic planning and implementation, training and outreach, grant management, and internal and external partnership development. Key Responsibilities:- Oversee program development and management including strategic planning and implementation; program performance management and tracking; and developing and updating processes and procedures.
- Administer analysis and information dissemination through gathering, preparing, and evaluating data; summarizing findings; and generating technical documents including reports.
- Conduct outreach and communication including event coordination, planning, and facilitation; providing effective and professional communication to internal and external stakeholders; and developing and maintaining key partnerships.
- Supervise a diverse staff and teams including staff development, performance plan management and reviews, and team building.
- Manage federal grant program including meeting internal and external grant requirements, manage budgets, reporting to stakeholders, and managing grant recipients/contractors as needed.
- Oversee programs for delivering permitting and compliance assistance; implementing environmental management system; and providing technical and pollution prevention assistance.

Recruitment Range: $65,876.00 - $96,000.00

Demonstrated prior experience in supervising, managing, or leading a team or the work of others.
Demonstrated experience with moderating or facilitating events and/or public speaking engagements.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in environmental work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
