What we need:
Mohawk is looking for a Sustainability Engineer who can do more for Mohawk by supporting Mohawk’s product transparency and material disclosure programs.
This position will be responsible for identifying and implementing innovative practices regarding product circularity. You’ll also help to support the overall corporate sustainability strategy by influencing customer preference for Mohawk products.
What you’ll do:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop tracking systems to measure product sustainability, as well as research competing products and initiatives
- Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies, practices, and products in the marketplace, which may affect the organization’s core businesses or result in new opportunities.
- Support and optimize client-centric strategies by researching and analyzing product life cycles
- Assist with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting to support overall business strategies (CRI, CDP, MSAP, DJSI, etc).
- Establish documentation and best practices across the Mohawk Enterprise regarding sustainability metrics.
- Assist internal and external groups with their needs by utilizing data and search tools
- Build audience engagement by representing Mohawk at sustainability and environmental events and trade shows, (i.e serving as back-up to Dir Special Services at customer meetings).
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in material science, engineering, or related technical field required, Master’s preferred
- Four to six years of experience implementing and coordinating improvement and cost reduction of existing products, the development of new products, processes and raw materials, and development of new business applications for existing core technologies OR two to three years of advanced education and experience in related field
- Experience with material chemistry, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams
- Understanding of building products and health/social/environmental sustainability issues required
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
What you’re good at:
- Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams (i.e. Compliance, R&D, Sales, etc.) while maintaining strong personal organization, poise, and professionalism
- Communicating effectively with a wide range of individuals in written, oral, and interpersonal form
- Utilizing mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to identify alternative solutions and provide numbers or methods to show efficacy
- Being familiar with sustainability market standards and drivers, as well as current environmental issues
- Engaging your emotional intelligence to exercise judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when needed
What else?
- Expect to travel around 25% for trade shows, facility visitation, etc.
- Working conditions may range from in-office to high-traffic production floor
