POSITION DESCRIPTION The primary focus of the Operations Manager position is to perform all duties associated with maintaining a safe and productive work environment for the recycling operation and involves regular communication with all Management, Administration, Warehouse, Maintenance, and Transportation staff.
The Operations Manager – Facility must also be a:
- Leader – outgoing, flexible, and capable of leading a team of professionals with a positive attitude.
- Strategic planner – successful in implementation.
- Communicator – able to work with a diverse group of staff that includes production, maintenance, and transportation personnel in both English and Spanish.
- Thinker – comfortable with complex problem solving.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
- Manage all production shifts as well as any shift supervisors or assistants.
- Responsible for creating a productive, efficient, and safe production facility, including intake of recycling material, material processing, and material shipping.
- Ensure quality recycling production through training, inspection, and quality control.
- Ensure proper grading of all inbound material with a particular focus on downgraded or contaminated loads.
- Ensure all duties are performed on shift, including unloading trailers, loading trailers, processing baskets, processing gaylords, processing bunkers, processing direct feed material, and processing main tip floor material.
- Maintain a clean and organized facility, including grounds outside the warehouse.
- Perform daily facility inspections with a particular focus on safety and organization. Assign corrections to all deficiencies to be completed before the end of each production shift.
- Ensure all pre-shift operations inspections are completed and any deficiencies are reported to the maintenance staff.
- Manage inbound and outbound traffic through utilization of warehouse staff.
- Notify maintenance of any equipment damage or issues that affect safety or performance.
- Coordinate with transportation to ensure efficient unloading of material hauled by company drivers.
- Manage all hiring responsibilities including review of the employee handbook and completion of all pre-employment paperwork.
- Assist the General Manager in warehouse personnel human resources administrative tasks, such as timesheets, time off requests, payroll change requests, scheduling, performance improvement plans, and terminations.
- Manage all injury and accident reporting, including any post-accident follow up in collaboration with the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Officer and Human Resources.
- Manage the inputting of all plant related production data on a daily basis through daily production and uptime reports.
- Uphold the monthly safety assurance program.
- Fill in for the Shift Supervisors or Assistant Managers when needed.
- Operate the inbound and outbound scale as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Experience in recycling, waste management, manufacturing, or similar industry in a plant or facility management role.
- Experience in and strong understanding of inventory management.
- Strong organizational, analytical, financial, and decision-making skills.
- Strong ability to manage budgeted dollars and provide in-depth analysis of variances (over and under) from budget.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Associates degree and/or 5 plus years of experience in a plant or general management role.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Up to 15%, dependent on travel restrictions of the area and/or Company
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regularly use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, speak and hear.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
