Summary: A Driver (Class A or B CDL) is responsible for safely operating a heavy commercial truck (Roll- Off and/or Tractor Trailer)to provide prompt and courteous delivery and removal of large industrial solid waste and recycling containers. The Driver is responsible for ensuring his or her vehicle is in compliance with the Company’s safety standards prior to operating the vehicle, ensures that all Company, state, and federal regulations are adhered to at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Good customer service skills to meet and exceed customer expectations; acts in a professional, courteous, and cooperative manner toward customers and co-workers; works with a sense of urgency.
- Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an effective, efficient, and safe manner.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, handle the removal of hydraulic hoses, clean up customer debris spilled around container, service solid waste/recycling containers, and lift cables and hooks weighing 50 lbs. or more using safe lifting techniques.
- Ability to identify and effectively communicate issues to dispatch or supervisor when assignments or tasks cannot be performed as instructed or planned.
- Ability to think through and provide solutions for issues that ultimately result in ensuring that customers are served as scheduled or planned. Able to change approach or method to best fit situation.
- Adaptable to changes in the work environment, schedule, route, etc.
- Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules; promotes the Company’s safety standards; does not take unsafe risks.
- Maintains a positive attitude and behavior, demonstrates a feeling of pride in work, adheres to work schedule, and strives to achieve all goals.
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and/or overtime as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
No supervisory responsibilities.
Principle Responsibilities
- Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle in accordance with Company policy to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, controls, etc. are in proper working order. Effectively communicate and report any vehicle defects or safety issues on the standard vehicle condition reports (VCRs).
- Safely operate truck along designated route and to the disposal site; read route sheet, follow map, and service each customer as identified on the route sheet or as assigned by the dispatcher and/or supervisor.
- Operate manual and/or automatic controls in accordance with the Company’s safety policies and procedures to lift and load refuse, operate compactor, and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.
- Safely perform minor repairs to containers on site or in the container yard. Ensure that all containers, loads, etc. are properly secured and transported in a safe manner.
- Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and report issues with containers in accordance with existing company policies and processes.
- Continuously monitor containers for evidence of unacceptable waste and report issues to dispatch and/or immediate supervisor.
- Clean area around any accidental waste spill, ensuring adherence to all applicable safety standards and policies while at customer locations, and report issues immediately to dispatch.
- Continuously monitor the condition of the vehicle to ensure it is operationally ready at all times; clean waste from the container and container edges on each disposal trip.
- Complete required route/productivity sheets, vehicle condition reports (VCRs), and other reports, as required.
- Maintain adherence to all required productivity standards; ensure all customers are serviced in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.
- Follow all required safety policies and procedures. Wear PPE as required for position.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must successfully complete all applicable pre-employment screening.
- Possess a valid CDL license.
- Two years of prior experience driving heavy trucks requiring a commercial driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry experience driving a roll off truck.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to be able to safety perform minor repairs to containers.
- Demonstrated performance in safely and consistently serving customers in the solid waste & recycling industry.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate, understand, and respond to questions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, bend, reach, pull, or listen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 50 lbs. or more using safe lifting techniques. Will be exposed to an environment which involves dirt, dust, odors, noise, weather extremes, etc. most of the workday.
