Description
Reporting to the Co-Executive Director, the Manager role will lead the development and execution of The Bentway’s fundraising efforts including partnerships with individual donors and foundations, government supporters, and corporate brands.
Location
The standard working week for this position is expected to include working 3 days/week from home and 2 days from The Bentway’s office in Toronto. Current in-office days are Wednesdays and Thursdays. Additional time in-office and/or onsite may be required.

Key responsibilities
Philanthropic
- Support Co-Executive Directors in the management of a pipeline of major gift prospects and current donors
- Support the Co-E.D.s in leading a Fundraising Working Group of senior volunteers
- Lead the development and growth of major gift prospects, particularly at the low to mid-level donor group
- Co-develop (with Co-E.D.) and execute a calendar of cultivation/stewardship events (2-3 per year) as well as other personalized hosting and storytelling opportunities for donor and prospect engagement
Government and foundations
- Lead the writing and submission of funding proposals, grant applications, and final reports
- Supervise junior staff on the tracking and research of new and ongoing grant opportunities
- In collaboration with relevant departments, prepare proposal and report project budgets
- Support the Co-E.D.s on the cultivation and stewardship of operational funding from all levels of government
Corporate giving
- Support outreach to corporate brands, including cold-calling and “discovery” meetings with prospects
- Develop creative and tailored “pitch” materials for prospective corporate donors
- Liaise with internal teams to track and analyze key stats and performance data related to Bentway programs and partnerships
- Work with sponsorship consultants and internal production teams and to coordinate corporate activations and explore naming opportunities
- Track and execute supporter recognition and benefits, liaising with internal teams and third parties to ensure that commitments are met
Other
- Supervise and work with 1 FT junior staff member on the Fundraising & Partnerships team
- Oversee departmental and project-based finances, including completing quarterly forecasts, developing and evaluating project budgets, and managing invoices & purchase orders
- Support the implementation and ongoing administration of a constituent database (Neon CRM)
- Prepare briefings and presentation materials for key internal stakeholders including The Bentway’s Board of Directors, Committees, and Advisory Groups
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience
- 5+ years work experience in individual giving, corporate sponsorship, grant writing and/or government relations, etc.
- Experience working in a fundraising environment and/or knowledge of fundraising landscape (ie: fundraising cycle, prospect research & identification, etc.)
- Experience managing staff or volunteers
- Experience in a donor-facing role (volunteer board management, hosting, facilitating fundraising committees) is considered an asset
- Very strong written communication skills, particularly in grant writing and reporting
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to research, collect, analyze, and present data for to variety of stakeholders
- Advance knowledge of standard office tools and applications including Email, MS Office Suite, phones, etc.
- Experience working in the areas of arts & culture, environment, and/or city-building is considered an asset
- Experience working with fundraising databases (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, Neon CRM, etc.) is a strong asset
- Knowledge of basic financial processes, including managing expense budgets, processing invoices, etc. is a strong asset
- Able to work some evenings and weekends as required
