The
Human Resources Manager will lead the day to day management of all programs and
procedures for employee benefits, workers compensation and 401k administration.
This position will adhere to all HR laws, policies and compliance. This
position must maintain confidentiality to the extent possible in all HR related
matters.
Essential
Functions:
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Staff Development
and Human Resources, the Human Resources Manager is responsible to plan,
coordinate and direct the day to day benefit functions, employee relations and
compliance of the Human Resources Department. This position will support the
Zoo the achieve its conservation, sustainability, education and DEAI goals.
Roles
and Responsibilities:
- Administer and
implement the company’s employee benefits program, including but not
limited to health insurance, retirement plans, wellness activities and
other fringe benefits.
- Work with Sr.
Director of Human Resources to evaluate existing benefit plans and
identify areas for improvement.
- Build and
maintain relationships with outside vendors and brokers to resolve benefit
related issues.
- Work with
employees to help resolve benefit related issues and escalate as needed.
- Process all new
hire, employee benefit enrollments, 401k plan enrollments, etc into online
system.
- Manage payroll
and benefit changes in online benefit system related to terminations,
transfers and promotions.
- Process all
employee tax withholding changes, direct deposits changes.
- Oversee the annual
open enrollment process, including timely communication to employees and
managers regarding benefits education and enrollment system management.
- Responsible
for the overall process of workers compensation claims, return to work and
any other activities relating to applicable laws and administration.
- Verify the
calculation of monthly premium statements for all benefit carriers.
Resolve administrative problems with the carrier.
- Reconcile
1095-C forms prior to broker sending to employees.
- Collaborate
with Finance department to maintain accurate employee records, including
salary, deductions and tax information.
- Oversee 401k audit
and review of 5500.
- Develop,
prepare and generate a variety of reports pertaining to personnel
information such as benefit costs, turnover, applicant tracking, and EEO
reporting.
- Perform exit
interviews with all employees prior to termination date.
- Assist with
preparation, scheduling, and implementation of new hire/benefit
orientations, training sessions, seminars, EAP programs
- Maintain
knowledge of human resource law changes, and compliance and advise
supervisors as needed.
- Maintain
confidentially and security of employee information, correspondence,
reports and files.
- Adhere to
company policies of the Maryland Zoo
- Perform other
duties as assigned.
Skills
and Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business
Management or Professional HR designation (PHR, SPHR or other) preferred. Minimum of five years equivalent work
experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree.
Experience/Training:
- Minimum of five years
of experience in a Human Resources environment, preferably benefits
administration or generalist functions;
- Valid driver’s license;
and,
- Possess excellent
skills in Google, Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Equipment:
- Must be able to operate
a variety of machines and equipment including computer, keyboard, telephone,
two-way radio, and golf cart.
Working
Conditions:
- Must be able to work on site and travel large
areas of the Zoo as needed;
·Must be able to
handle objects, files, job/career fair materials, and booth set-up; and,
- Must be able to carry,
push, or lift items weighing up to 35 pounds.
