Software: fuel for mobility
We bring bold digital visions to life. So we’re on the lookout for more curious and creative engineers who want to create change – one line of high-quality code at a time. Our transformation isn't for everyone, but if you're excited about solving the leading-edge technological challenges facing the auto industry, then let’s talk about your next move.
About us
At Research & Development, you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers around the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. Are you interested in design and connected car technology? Do you share our passion for people, the environment, and our urge to create a superior driving experience? Research and Development is the place for you to prosper.
What’s in it for you?
To support the new strategy with an aggressive plan for electrification, Volvo Cars is currently moving to in-house development of key software components of the traction battery management system. Traction batteries are complex systems containing hundreds of battery cells together with a thermal conditioning system. In order to operate the battery optimally, it is important to know internal parameters of the battery cells, such as resistance and charge level. By securing good monitoring of the battery internal states, available energy and power can be estimated, which is crucial to provide a good charging and driving experience.
The department commit to deliver battery control software with high quality and with an ownership that lays within the development teams. The development teams are responsible for everything from research, concept design, software development, calibration and testing for their respective technical area – which enables a great variety in the daily tasks. Main focus is to deliver an innovated and robust Battery SW platform for the next generation of hybrid and electrical vehicles.
What you’ll do
We are looking for the right person to join our State of X (SoX) Team, which main objective is to estimate available power, energy and health of the battery. The vehicle’s supervisory drivetrain control unit for Electrical vehicles requires current and predictive information about the battery state, e.g. to predict the remaining range. However, this information cannot be measured directly via conventional sensors, therefore, the team must analyse current, voltage and temperatures measurements and calculate based on advanced state estimation and prediction algorithms the missing information for controls purposes.
The team develops advanced algorithms and support functions that monitor and protect the energy storage system in every conceivable way.
In this role as Software Engineer, you will be a part of an agile and fast-paced team that delivers state of the art functionality. Besides implementing and testing the functions you develop, you will also get the chance to be involved in early phase concept work.
The team is responsible of the implementation and quality assurance of the SoX software components in the Traction Battery SW. For implementation of functionality, the base tools are Matlab/Simulink. There are strict processes for quality assurance in-place. There is a complete toolchain for building the complete Autosar compliant SW packages that are tested on unit level, software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), battery pack and complete vehicle level.
You and your skills
You have a master’s degree and background within Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Automation and mechatronics or similar. You have experience from Simulation and Model-Based Design using MATLAB/ Simulink. Good experience in battery control software development or experience from vehicle and HIL testing. Knowledge in Autosar, ISO 26262 or programming skills in C, C++ and Python is meritorious.
Do you fit the profile?
You are highly committed to deliver results. A team player and with good coordination and communication skills. Pro-active and persistent in achieving goals and cross-functional improvement. You have a European Driver’s license and are fluent in English, spoken and written. You demonstrate a strong understanding of development processes and methodologies.
