Background
The growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) has created a significant need for more efficient, compact, and cost-effective charging technologies. With the global push towards decarbonization and the widespread adoption of renewable energy sources, EVs are seen as a key component of sustainable transportation. However, a major challenge in the EV sector is the development of high-performance charging systems that meet the needs of both consumers and power grid operators.
Traditional charging architectures for EVs typically rely on isolated AC-DC converters, which provide galvanic isolation between the grid and the vehicle. While these isolated systems offer safety benefits, they come with downsides such as increased size, cost, and complexity. Moreover, the rising power demands from EVs require more advanced topologies to handle high power levels while maintaining efficiency and minimizing electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Scope
The objective of the thesis work is to analyze and perform measurement of a grid connected inverter for non-isolated AC charging of HV battery
Main tasks:
1. Perform literature study over grid connected inverters
2. Build a model of CHB converter in PLECS
3. Develop a controller for both charging and discharging of the Battery
4. Investigate different grid configurations and parameters
5. Test and measurement of relevant parameters like Y-capacitors and leakage current
6. Fault mode analysis of grid connected inverter (CHB)
Your skills
• Electric power, Mechatronics, Control Theory, Electric drive engineering or equivalent
• Model-based development (Matlab/Simulink or PLECS)
• Mandatory to have a very good understanding of grid connected inverter for this master thesis.
• Experience of PLECS is meritorious
