Summary: Responsible for supervising all operations related to the turf branch of the grounds department with guidance from the Director of Grounds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)
• Operates City Park equipment including but not limited to vehicles, small garden tractors, small engine machines, zero turn mowers and other equipment necessary.
• Ability to operate all equipment needed to efficiently perform ground duties.
• Cleaning and maintenance of equipment and tools used throughout the daily course of work.
• Mowing, edging, weed eating and blowing of all assigned areas.
• Basic understanding of mechanical operation of all equipment and ability to communicate to mechanic and repairs or maintenance needed.
• Willingness to learn and be trained on larger equipment used in grounds maintenance.
• Pickup and removal of all loose paper and debris in assigned area.
• Removal of all debris, including tree branches, tires, dead animals, furniture, car parts and any other unwanted debris that is left on park grounds.
• Reporting of graffiti, large debris, or other unwanted items on park grounds so they are immediately addressed.
• Cleaning of drains and catch basins.
• Assisting other team members and departments as necessary
• Monitors and evaluates all areas throughout the park to ensure grounds maintenance is consistent with all other contracted and other labor responsible for grounds care in the park.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all park staff, vendors, and the public.
• Basic understanding of mechanical operation of all equipment and ability to communicate with mechanic any repairs or maintenance needed.
• Assist with street cleaning, drain clearing and other non-turf care tasks as needed.
• Supports and actively promotes New Orleans City Park’s safety programs.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and group situations.
• Spraying of herbicides under supervisor guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Active and Unsuspended Driver’s License
• Ability to work in various weather conditions including extreme heat.
• Previous experience related to lawn care and grounds maintenance.
