Our Award-Winning Client, a nationally recognized leader in clean energy technology, is seeking a highly skilled Battery Reliability Engineer to join its Energy Technology business group. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of cutting-edge battery technology solutions. This position involves conducting reliability risk assessments, leading DfR initiatives on Li-ion battery-powered products, and managing demonstration tests. The successful candidate will analyze test data, identify root causes of failures, and develop and implement strategies to enhance battery reliability.
Key Responsibilities

Define reliability processes at cell, module, and system levels for various products utilizing Li-ion cells, including Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and IoT devices.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as product design engineers to establish battery performance and reliability metrics.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of battery chemistries and technologies to assess their reliability and field performance across diverse applications.

Gain deep knowledge of the operating environments and performance needs for Li-ion battery applications specific to our client’s products.
- Apply expertise in statistical analysis to recognize trends in battery performance and leverage predictive models to enhance reliability.

Drive validation excellence by monitoring the design verification and validation plans of other team members and escalating concerns to leadership.

Maintain detailed records of battery performance and reliability data for continuous improvement and reporting.
- Provide critical insights during Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEAs, and Design Reviews.

Investigate battery failure modes and root causes, recommending corrective actions for long-term improvements.
- Develop and execute strategies to enhance battery reliability, including manufacturing process improvements and selecting batteries with higher longevity, capacity, and efficiency.

Manage third-party resources (external labs, consultants) to fulfill delegated work packages, including developing statements of work and commercial agreements.
- Support product development plans by ensuring schedule adherence, cost management, and alignment with design inputs.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers to elevate team knowledge and capability.
Minimum Qualifications

Master of Science Degree in Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.

7+ years of relevant experience in battery reliability engineering, ideally within the automotive or energy storage industries.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing battery reliability programs.
Additional Skills Preferred

PhD in Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

Certification in Reliability Engineering.
- Experience in developing and/or validating power electronic products.
- Familiarity with renewable energy products.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of battery safety, cell chemistry, and environmental factors influencing battery performance.
- Understanding of reliability failure modes related to power electronics and the associated failure mechanisms.
- Experience with statistical analysis tools for identifying and analyzing trends in performance data.
- Familiarity with relevant test standards, such as IEEE, JEDEC, and IEC.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
- Strong communication skills to present complex information clearly.
- Demonstrated decision-making skills.
