Supporting the growth of BluEarth’s portfolio of operating wind, solar, hydroelectric and battery storage energy facilities, the Operations Specialist is accountable to implement and continually improve BluEarth’s HSE Program with and for the field operations teams. This will include providing operations teams with tactical support with the implementation of BluEarth’s HSE programs, including the Hazardous Energy Control (HEC), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), and Confined Space Programs. The Operations HSE Specialist will also play a key role in the administration and implementation of BluEarth’s Operator & Technician Competency Program. Understanding and staying abreast of industry best practices and keeping up with technological innovation will be key success factors.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Support and drive the continual improvement and maturity of HSE Programs across all operating facilities to maximize efficiency, value, and operator participation.
- Support operations in the completion of safety documentation, as well as checking that it is reviewed and signed off on by team members, contractors, subcontractors, visitors, etc. as required.
- Provide training to operational personnel on completion of HSE Programs within the HSE Management system.
- Establish strong relationships with operations field personnel, encouraging the growth of safety culture through regular site visits to all operating sites.
- Participate actively in Operations Safety Meetings
- Support operations teams by providing technical and tactical on-site support and resources for issues beyond their regular day-to-day operational accountability (e.g. HEC/LOTO Program, Procedural Development, Confined Space Program and Competency Program).
- Uphold all aspects of BluEarth’s Environment, Health, & Safety policies, practices, and programs.
- Uphold BluEarth’s values while consistently enhancing the image and reputation of the Company.
- Other duties as required.
Education
- Degree, diploma or certification in Occupational Health & Safety Management or related field is considered an asset.
- Journeyman certificate and/or technical certification is preferred.
Experience
- Five to ten years of experience working in an energy operations setting, and/or experience working on the operation and maintenance of mechanical/electrical equipment in the field.
- Experience leading the development and implementation of Occupational Health and Safety programs, preferably in the power generation, distribution, or transmission, energy, or resource development sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in development, writing, and administration of a technical and/or safety standards and procedures.
- Proven ability to multi-task and provide assistance and guidance to diverse operating teams.
- Technical knowledge of renewable electricity operations including functionality and design of turbines, generators, inverters, and balance-of-plant components.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, schematic drawings, and operations, service, and other procedural manuals.

Job Requirements
- Ability to travel within Canada and US – up to 50% travel to operational sites.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours as required;
- Physically capable of working safely in various environmental conditions, including cold and hot weather;
- Physically capable of lifting and maneuvering items up to 50lbs; and
- Completion of a satisfactory pre-employment medical assessment, including Urine Drug Screen and / or Breath Alcohol test.
