JOB SUMMARY: This position is located within the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, in the Office of the Superintendent. MAJOR DUTIES: Advancing Tribal relations to a deeper level through innovative approaches and responsiveness to Tribal interests and concerns. Supports Tribal consultation for Section 106 and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and serves as liaison between Tribes and the National Park Service. Works with Tribes to reflect Tribal interests in National Park Service planning around co-stewardship, Climate Change Response Strategy, and Fire and Fuels Management Plan - to include cultural burning. Develops and writes communications products including fact sheets, talking points, background materials, presentations, and key messages on park issues. Establishes and maintains effective, proactive working relationships with internal and external contacts to implement communication strategies and foster understanding of the NPS's complex mission and responsibilities. This includes establishing effective relationships with members of local and regional Tribes and with park partners as well as with park managers and staff. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years.
