What you'll do...- It’s hard to write a definitive list because as the Octopus Energy Group continues to evolve at pace, so does the type of work we support. We’re looking for someone who is smart, versatile and up for the challenge of working on a wide variety of different transactions
We are ideally looking for someone who has experience in a wide range of corporate matters, including some or all of the following:
- Equity investment rounds
- Employee share scheme management
- Company secretary and governance
- Internal and external debt financing arrangements
- M&A
You’ll also need to be able to lead on the drafting and negotiation of a variety of commercial contracts such as:
- Partnership agreements for new projects
- Goods and services, innovative trials and collaboration agreements
- Customer facing terms and communications
- Contracts to support our electric vehicles leasing business
- Technology licensing
- You’ll help provide ad hoc advice for all the interesting queries that an in-house legal team can expect to receive, such as data protection, competition, compliance, employment, office expansion and intellectual property matters
- Help us build the legal function globally as we continue to grow overseas and enter new countries
- We are not a “post-box” in-house team, we try and do as much work as we can ourselves. However, we do use a small panel of external law firms to support us on larger or more specialist transactions. You will be closely involved in these transactions, helping to select, liaise with and manage our external counsel, bringing your commercial understanding of the business to the legal process
- We have a very flat, open structure at Octopus Energy. You’ll be reporting to our General Counsel, but will work closely with the business across all levels of seniority
What you'll need...- Ideally some experience in-house, so that you’re familiar with the variety and fast paced nature of an in-house team
- You’ll be expected to be independent, and be willing to take responsibility for your projects and make decisions with relatively light supervision
- Experience in corporate law will be a bonus, but we are primarily a technology company in the energy industry, so we cover lots of different areas
- To be a fully qualified UK lawyer. We’re most interested in the “right” person, but if we had to choose a number, we’d say you’ll need around 5+ years PQE experience
- You’ll need a sensible, commercial mindset to succeed here and must be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with direct exposure to senior management and stakeholders
- Be excellent at prioritisation and happy to multi-task and manage a wide variety of transactions at once and be willing to take a view.
- Have a genuine interest in the Octopus Energy Group’s mission
Why else you'll love it here- Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us! On a call with one of our recruiters it's something we always cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Octopus - what's more important to us is finding the right octofit!
