The position of Marine Warranty Surveyor Manager is a key role within the Offshore Renewables Business with the objective of ensuring marine operation involving insured items are warranted on time and to operational limits critical to the programme execution of large-scale offshore wind projects in the UK, Europe and overseas.
Belonging to the Project Services Marine Operations Dept and supporting both Installation packages and the Project Construction Manager, the Marine Warranty Surveyor Manager is responsible for providing subject matter expertise in the appointment and management of the specialist and independent technical consultancy services needed to de-risk Offshore marine operations and ensure they are warranted, on time to the satisfaction of the Construction All Risk (CAR) insurance policy during execution.
Responsibilities
Providing professional advice regarding marine warranty / technical strategies / risk levels and commercial agreements to the packages, ensuring that cost effective technical solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the associated marine risk profile is fully understood by the project, you will be required to take an active approach, adept understanding and willingness to assist in the maturation of all Offshore load out, transportation, marshalling and installation operations to identify potential interfaces with insured items and to ensure the MWS SoW is fulfilled.
Pre-Financial Investment Decision:
- Support in development the vessel and logistics plan for execution and use to underpin the MWS scope of work identifying, in particular (and by use of Naval Architectural subject matter expertise) operations deemed high risk of claim for damage or loss.
- Develop and mature the MWS SoW during the tender process and consultation and complete technical evaluation of the bidders.
- Identify risks associated with Contractor’s proposals for loadout, transportation, and installation activities.
- Establish efficient means of document control for the purposes of transmitting large volumes of technical literature between the Client, Contractor and MWS to gain acceptance.
- Act as central point of contact for all matters pertaining to MWS interface, manage and track the early works to identify best approach and to clarify, for consistency, MWS concerns.
Execution phase:
- Manage and coordinate the release of all Company content for MWS approval, including the monitoring of MWS comment sheet replies, to ensure Contractual response times are observed.
- Ensure the Contractors are fully briefed in the MWS acceptance process and catalyse the relationship between the Consultant and Contractor to ensure timely acceptance.
- Organise and attend meetings, when necessary, between Contractors and MWS to clarify technical concerns doubts/facts regarding construction and timely MWS approval.
- Receive, check, and approve the invoices received from MWS. Establish and maintain effective communications with the personnel responsible for the approval of invoices in SAP to ensure correct and timely payment.
- Hold regular meetings with the installation management, give Naval Architectural support to the Installation Managers/installation teams to get the CoA for the operations on time and cost.
- Where acceptance is gained, secure it is consistent with performance expected under contract. In the event of inconsistencies, document and evidence Contractor’s shortcomings and challenges.
What you’ll bring
With advanced knowledge on marine operations deployed for development, construction, and operations in context of risk and interface management issues for Offshore Wind projects, you will possess substantial experience designing and working in the Offshore industry, preferably Offshore Wind.
Possessing sound relationship management skills and confidence working with Senior Management, you will have the ability to translate technical detail into commercial impact.
To be successful in a role you will need to demonstrate as minimum:
- Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline such as Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering or equivalent.
- Academic and practical experience in Offshore construction/installation (heavy lift, subsea, power cable, pipeline installation).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Project Management capability.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation associated with Offshore/Marine construction projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to develop Offshore procedures, standards, and guidance.
- Ability to work independently and as an effective leader.
- Flexible to travel around the UK and overseas.
- IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software.
