This position supports the functions of the Environmental Health and Safety Department by identifying and evaluating risks to employee safety and the environment and establishes controls to mitigate or eliminate those risks. The EHS Specialist plays a key role in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace through detailed analysis, collaboration, and problem solving, both within the EHS department and throughout the business. This position helps protect GenMark’s right to operate by through risk identification and mitigation, accident prevention, compliance management, audit response and execution, record keeping, program development, and environmental/safety related training.
The Opportunity
Support the development, review, and revision of EHS programs which includes technical writing to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Lead or facilitate investigation of EHS incidents to identify cause(s), and corrective and preventative actions to reduce or eliminate risk of recurrence.
Manage action plans to ensure incident follow up is complete and effective. Compile and report EHS related metrics as needed or assigned.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations in areas of assigned responsibility. Obtain and maintain Health & Safety records and required Environmental permits, permits/licenses and other important EHS documents. Ensure permit requirements are met.
Provide collaborative leadership and resources to implement program, process, or systematic changes to ensure compliance when required.
Maintain an incident and injury reporting database, update files, and records, including injury and illness data and other paperwork to ensure compliance. Develop metrics, summaries, materials, communications and resources to provide accurate and timely reporting of EHS related data. Ensure documentation is maintained and tracked.
Develop and update training materials and technical reports and provide analysis of policies and procedures.
Prepare, coordinate and conduct regular EHS related meetings, inspections and trainings. Coordinate the management of hazardous and medical waste. Manage hazardous waste streams.
Who You Are
You hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Science, or other technical degree.
You have a minimum of 5 years environmental, health & safety experience, including experience in managing EHS and workers compensation regulations in manufacturing, R&D, and warehousing environments.
Experience within the clinical diagnostics or medical device industry is preferred but not mandatory.
Experience with basic industrial hygiene practices and experience in incident response and management.
Experience evaluating, managing, and mitigating EHS risk in industrial, laboratory, and office environments and experience analyzing EHS data to identify issues and trends and using that analysis to drive action within a matrixed organization
Experience utilizing document control software for routing and maintenance of EHS programs preferred- but not mandatory, and experience using, maintaining, and/or calibrating EHS monitoring equipment preferred.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Carlsbad, CA is 64,100.00 - 119,100.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
