Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Education and/or Experience:A bachelor's degree in engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related field, along with at least three (3) years of experience in manufacturing, managing capital projects, continuous improvement, mechanical engineering, and/or maintenance roles. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems is preferred. Experience in a lean manufacturing environment with a proven track record of leading problem-solving activities and projects is also preferred.
Must have:
- HSE management experience, including management systems, risk assessment, and accident/incident investigation in a manufacturing environment.
- Developed capability to understand and influence behavior in an industrial context.
- In-depth knowledge of national, state, and local legislation and industry codes
- Intermediate-level computer proficiency
- Structured, systematic problem-solving and improvement techniques such as 5S, SEA (Single Event Analysis), and Kaizen
- Experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of Environmental and/or Occupational Health and Safety systems
- Proficiency with MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong communication skills, effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in a team-based environment.
- Flexibility with work hours, including being "on call" as needed, including evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
- Ability to set and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with PSM (Process Safety Management) and/or PSA (Process Safety Analysis) is preferred.
- Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) are preferred.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write complex reports and correspondence. Must be able to communicate orally and written in English.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures by using advanced math skills, applicable to and consistent with an engineering degree.
Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in non-standardized situations.
