Summary
The EH&S Manager is responsible for developing, planning, and directing environmental, health and safety activities to ensure team member engagement, regulatory compliance, and maintaining and/or improving the EHS management system to protect human health and the environment at all locations and job sites. This position inspects and evaluates the environment, equipment, and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with Reliance policies, government safety regulations and industry standards. Their main priority is to protect team members, customers, and the environment. This position must identify potentially hazardous situations and then recommend strategies to protect and educate team members on how to prevent safety incidents using safety training programs. This position is also responsible for investigating health & safety incidents and to identify their root causes and find ways to prevent them in the future. In addition, the EHS Manager will maintain environmental compliance throughout multiple locations and assist in the effective facilitation of programs and procedures to ensure the prevention of safety incidents. This role reports administratively to General Manager (Reliable) and functionally to Director of Health & Safety (Reliance).
Essential Functions
- Manage Reliance H&S programs and activities to achieve, maintain, and exceed compliance with state and federal laws and regulations while upholding Reliable’s policies, standards, and procedures
- Oversee safety programs and training for all US based team Members, including Reliable and other Reliance businesses located in the USA. This also includes but is not limited to OSHA, EPA, RCRA, and DOT/IATA/IMDG related training and reporting requirements, as well as safety talks and written communications
- Monitor and track safety programs, safety incidents, and compliance with safety regulations, Reliable standards and guidelines, and industry best practices
- Communicate with injured worker, supervisors, Human Resources and Labor regarding benefits, doctor appointments, off work, restricted work and return to work
- Coordinate ergonomic evaluations with vendor and injured worker
- Conduct New Team Member Orientation Training and any on-going safety related training as required
- Support and maintain the EHS systems
- Collaborate with our corporate teams to implement consistent safety programs and best practices
- Provide support and direction to all Reliance location in the USA including, Reliable locations and operations
- Facilitate compliance with all regulatory environmental and safety standards and guidelines through audits, inspections, recordkeeping, and data documentation
- Manage Worker’s Compensation program, support incident investigations, provide recommendations for corrective or preventive measures, and ensure that accurate environmental and incident records are maintained
- Maintain a current working knowledge of EHS regulations and laws to provide expertise for EHS assessments, and general EHS related problem solving at the site, office locations and corporate as needed
- Drive behavioral based safety program to raise safety awareness and change the safety culture throughout the organization
- Establishes high quality relationships with both internal and external customers

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Safety Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or a related discipline preferred
- Certification in professional EHS field (e.g., CSP, ASP)
- Minimum of 5 -7 years of progressive experience
- Experience in implementing EHS management Systems (OHSAS ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Strong occupational safety background with focus on life critical processes and programs (e.g., Cranes & Lifting, Electrical/LOTO, Machine Guarding, Fall Protection, Mobile Equipment & Pedestrian Safety, Confined Space, Fire Protection, Emergency Response)
- Proven ability to work independently as well as lead/participate on teams and work in a matrix environment
- Proven experience as a self-starter, who effectively manages multiple tasks, achieves results with minimal supervision and possesses excellent documentation and record-keeping skills
- Creativity, Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Ability to Influence, Persistence, Practicality, Ability to Communicate to all Levels and cultures, Enthusiasm/Passion
- Ability to understand customers need both internal and external and translate that understanding into action
- Ability to work and achieve success in a matrix environment keeping key stakeholders informed and engaged
- Ability to travel at varying frequencies and work irregular hours as needed.
