Position Information
This position is located in the Sustainability, Waste and Beautification Department.
The purpose of this classification is to effectively plan, develop, and execute programs, activities, and services that promote environmental sustainability, waste reduction, and the enhancement of the county's aesthetic appeal and quality of life for Cobb residents.
Essential Functions
Assists in the planning and design of environmental education programming, services, activities, and events. Conducts research to develop engaging content for environmental programming. Assists in conducting community needs assessments to identify areas of focus. Coordinates the gathering and reservation of necessary supplies and equipment. Creates informative handouts and supplemental materials. Develops a schedule for programming and conducts environmental education classes for schools, libraries, civic groups, and the general public.
Provides exceptional customer service to the public: Receives and responds to inquiries and requests for environmental and recycling information. Effectively communicates with community groups, interested citizens, clubs, civic organizations, schools, and other relevant entities interested in environmental education. Coordinates various programming and presentations for Keep Cobb Beautiful (KCB). Schedules speakers and presentations, as well as activities and demonstrations.
Plans, leads, and supervises participants at diverse KCB programs and events: Takes charge of coordinating monthly tree planting and gardening activities. Contacts and liaises with various venues to schedule activities. Actively recruits and engages participants to ensure successful program implementation.
Assists in the planning and implementation of public relations and communication for KCB: Creates visually appealing and informative flyers, schedules, calendars, brochures, emails, and other promotional materials. Maintains and updates email/mailing distribution lists to effectively reach the target audience. Actively participates in public events and meetings to raise awareness about KCB's initiatives.
Provides essential clerical support, as needed: Prepares and submits reports and forms on activities in a timely manner. Updates weekly and monthly calendars to ensure accurate scheduling. Takes detailed meeting minutes and transcribes them accurately. Maintains an inventory of publications and other informational materials for efficient distribution.
Assist in environmental programming, community outreach, or administrative tasks as required by the role.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Natural Resource Management, Public Administration, or a related field; supplemented by two years of professional experience in environmental programming, waste management, community outreach, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing environmental programming and writing curriculum
- Taught classes across diverse audience (all ages including early children up to senior citizens)
- Experience coordinating large community events
- Experience with public speaking
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, or traffic hazards.
