The Health & Safety Manager (HSM) will report directly to the Sr. Health & Safety Manager. This position requires the HSM to work closely with all General Managers and Operations Directors. The incumbent is responsible for conducting an in-depth gap analysis of our current Health and Safety standards, Health and Safety Training, and the work undertaken in the field. The incumbent will be responsible for verifying all company Health & Safety standards, Health & Safety training, and work performed adheres to all company-required guidelines, federal and state regulatory requirements, and consensus industry standards to minimize company health and safety liabilities.
Pay Range: $95,000. - $115,000 Annually
Essential Functions:
- Manage HS review of standards and training
- Responsible for reporting findings to HS corporate leaders
- Demonstrated ability to work in diverse multi-language working environments
- Proactively develop plans to close gaps and develop continuous improvement programs
- Collaborates with site leadership, contractors, government, and community stakeholders
- Provide input as part of the leadership team to drive Health and Safety strategy improvement
- Integrate business strategies and objectives into a Health and Safety implementation plan
- Interprets and stays current on best practices, laws, and regulations relating to Health and Safety

Equipment & Maintenance
- Works closely with operations to understand industry-specific equipment and associated health and safety risks
- Evaluate administrative procedures and training requirements for facilities to establish best management practices and safe work practices
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Manages safety-related vendor contracts and budgets (e.g., policy development, safety training, consultants, etc.)
Administrative Management
- Provides health and safety coaching/assistance to operations leaders and their teams
- Interview team members to determine comprehension of health & safety training programs
Interpersonal Contacts:
Internal contacts are by phone, email, and in person with all personnel throughout the Radius Recycling Industry-related locations. The incumbent interfaces with corporate safety, other safety professionals internal and external to the company, and vendors. Furthermore, ensuring an open and collaborative communication style and maintaining professional dialogue with key business partners (i.e., General Managers, Superintendents, General Foremen, Environmental Professionals, etc.) throughout the organization is essential to the incumbent’s success.
Job Conditions:
Air and car travel, including exposure to physical operations ranging from office to field environment, may be required. Must adapt to a flexible schedule, potentially working different shifts to support operational needs and respond to urgent matters.
Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds frequently and over 50 pounds occasionally; walk, go up and down stairs, or otherwise negotiate around physical barriers in the field or warehouse environment; sit for up to 6 hours per day; keyboard for 1-3 hours per day; and be mobile for extended periods, up to several hours per day. Visual acuity is required to perform close detail work to input and retrieve data from a computer, read and interpret figures on reports, conduct physical facilities inspections, and drive. Must be able to scale varying heights as necessary.
Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s or associate degree in health and safety or 8+ years of relevant experience in Health and Safety management, with a preference for heavy industrial experience. The candidate should have the knowledge, skills, and ability to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal Health and Safety laws and other government regulations. A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive are required for this position.
The ideal candidate should be able to balance business needs and Health & Safety requirements cost-effectively. They should have knowledge and experience in collecting, managing, and analyzing various data and trends in Health & Safety behavior and compliance. The candidate must be able to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues using judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, and government law. Practical written and oral communication skills are also required in a culturally diverse environment. The candidate must be personally responsible and accountable for achieving performance goals and those of a team and have a proven track record of building credible relationships.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
