Fleet Maintenance Technician ISigning bonus of $2,000.00
Reports To: Fleet Operations Manager
Terms: Regular full-time, hourly
Shift: Schedule dependent on current assignment
Compensation: $38.72 /hour with an additional $2.00 shift differential after 3 pm. Pay increases for valid ASE certifications. Scheduled increases to base pay according to Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Primary Purpose:
The Fleet Maintenance Technician I (FMTI) is responsible for conducting preventive maintenance inspections (PMI) and troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding major components on Eureka Recycling’s fleet of vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to: Brakes, Air Systems, Hydraulics, Compactors, Automated Arms, Engine Diagnostics, ABS, etc. The FMTI plays a vital part in ensuring the vehicles’ optimal performance and reliability, contributing directly to Eureka’s mission of zero waste.
Responsibilities:
- Preventive maintenance inspection (PMI), troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild major components on vehicles and equipment. Including but not limited to: Brakes, Air Systems, Hydraulics, Compactors, Automated Arms, Engine Diagnostics, ABS, etc
- Root Cause Analysis of all breakdowns – Proactive vs Reactive
- Following all safety policies such as; lock-out Tag-out, Confined Space, PPE, etc.
- Review the vehicle condition reports (VCR’s) accessed through the fleet technology system, work with management to determine priorities for immediate fixes for the next day’s routes, perform the repairs as necessary
- Understand, support, and demonstrate the mission and values of the Organization.
- Advise Supervisor of parts needed to complete current tasks
- Accurately document all completed work, labor hours, and parts used in the maintenance software system to maintain comprehensive maintenance records.
Requirements Qualifications:
- Has journeyman skill set (able to proficiently diagnose, repair, and rebuild brakes, air systems, hydraulic systems, compactors, automated arms, engine diagnostics, ABS, etc.)
- Owns and uses their own full set of diesel mechanic tools, with sufficient tools to be able to do a full range of journeyman-level repairs on diesel trucks.
- Satisfactory driving record (MVR report).
- Meets all DOT requirements for the position including pre-employment medical exams and mandatory drug testing (if holding a CDL).
- Demonstrated skills and experience in general heavy truck repair for commercial fleet operations, including diesel engine system diagnostics, air brake repair, and preventative maintenance.
- Intermediate computer skills (proficiency with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Demonstrated documentation and recordkeeping skills and use of fleet maintenance software tracking systems
- Strong organization skills with the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated skills and experience in heavy truck repair for commercial fleet operations, including diesel engine system diagnostics, air brake repair, and preventative maintenance
- Basic welding skills such as Oxy/Acetylene, MIG, and ARC
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects, up to 50 pounds, as required for maintenance tasks
- Stand or walk for extended periods during the shift to perform maintenance duties
- Ability to work in various positions and confined spaces to access and inspect vehicles
- Must climb in and out of the truck; bending at the waist, reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; carrying, pushing, and pulling
- Must have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of buttons and levers and use of feet to control pedals on equipment
Working Conditions:
- Works indoors and outdoors in a shop environment; subject to seasonal and adverse weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to fumes, dust, and odors, as well as noise from equipment operation.
