SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Food and Beverage Manager and Catering & Events Captains, the banquet service associate’s s main duty is service of all food and beverage items for various reception and dinner functions, while creating memorable experiences for our guests. This position requires full set up, service, and tear down of events. Additional areas of responsibility include but are not limited to set up and bartending for the event, ensuring all items including linens and equipment are returned to their respective areas following the event. Ensuring a safe environment for all staff and guests is also required of all catering service staff.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous bartending experience and/or those willing to learn.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide excellent customer service to guests:
- Amaze, engage and inspire the guests the sharing your knowledge of the animals at the Vancouver Aquarium.
- Ensure all guests are served with professionalism and with an attention to detail
- Go above and beyond to ensure all guests have a memorable experience
Helps maintain cleanliness at events by:
- Use trays to serve and bus food and beverage items where logistically appropriate
- Ensure service rooms, pre-function space, and storage areas are kept clean, organized, and unobstructed
- Service meeting rooms by emptying trash, removing dirty plates, cups, linens and glasses, and replace as necessary, straightening chairs and replenishing water requirements as specified or requested
- Maintain a clean and pressed uniform;
- Maintain a clean and groomed appearance at work.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Experience in high volume banquet or restaurant service is preferred
- Ability to read a BEO and follow all set up, event guidelines and requests
- Serving it Right Certificate is required
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and within a minimum allotted timeframe
Skills
- Excellent Customer Service Skills;
- Proven ability to work alone or in a team
- Able to follow directions of Catering and Events Management and work with time constraints and with limited supervision
- Able to work under pressure
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
- Working knowledge of Outlook or other email programs; needs to be able to access email (for scheduling purposes);
- Able to safely carry a minimum of 3 plates at a time;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English;
- Knowledge of another language is an asset.

Working Conditions
- Job requires the ability to safely carry loads up to 30lbs at a time;
- Job requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time;
- Availability and flexibility to work a variety of shifts including weekends, early morning, evenings, holidays and very late nights is required.
