The Memphis Zoo has an exciting opportunity for friendly, enthusiastic, and guest-focused individuals to join our team. Under the direction of the Event Manager, Event Team Members will work to facilitate events operations and provide excellent service to all private event clients, vendors, & guests.
Gig positions are defined as temporary and flexible work to meet an organization’s temporary needs to complete certain tasks and projects/events. When a project/event is available, gig workers have the flexibility to choose their desired shifts. Events are typically held on evenings and weekends.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for execution of private events.
- Ensure that each guest receives outstanding guest service by providing a guest friendly environment.
- Facilitate Private Event needs including, but not limited to, assist guest questions, maintain event venue space, make layout changes to accommodate guest flow, problem solving, and more.
- Ensure smooth operations of food service by serving, collaborating with back of house staff, and meal presentation.
- Communicate effectively with guests, teammates, departments, and others.
- Ensure guest safety through implementation of private event/Zoo rules and regulations.
- Help prepare for private events, working in cooperation with all zoo staff, management, and clients.
- Maintain the Memphis Zoo Private Event standards throughout the execution of the event.
- Preparing the venue for an event including, but not limited to, table and chair placement, setting up rental items, and catering table set up.
- Problem solves possible issues as they arise with the venue and/or guests.
- Provide accurate and timely feedback to Events Manager on Duty and if needed, supporting departments (operations, custodial, catering, etc.)
- Must always conduct self in a professional demeanor when in front of clients.
- Provide crowd control when necessary.
- Assisting the Events Manager on Duty with their needs as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Education and Experience: Previous experience in serving or catering is preferred, not required. Other education/experience can include customer service experience, hospitality, event experience or comparable educational focus (i.e. hospitality)
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may have to work in outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderately loud when on Zoo grounds and during Private Events.
Physical Demands: Must be capable of moving across zoo grounds, remaining stationary for long periods of time, and working outdoors in variable weather conditions. Must be capable of transporting supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Expected Hours of Work: This position is gig, event based work, and regularly requires weekend or evening work.
