Intern, HV Battery Systems, Summer 2025
Location: Newark. CA
Team Description:
HV Battery Systems is at the cross-section of battery design, thermal management, battery modeling, and BMS HW and SW systems engineering. The team is responsible for carrying out requirement definition for battery functional attributes, analyzing system impact of new cell chemistries, and driving continuous improvements for the ongoing battery programs to improve customer experience with the product. We are looking for an intern to join our team for Summer 2025.
Role/Responsibilities:
· Support system architecture definition, debug, and issue resolution for early prototype vehicles
· Work with manufacturing to help define End of Line procedure to meet cycle time requirements while ensuring the battery meets essential quality metrics
· Carry out data analysis to root cause field failures and help drive resolution to critical issues
· Support battery safety concept definition and work closely with test team to define test objectives and pass/fail criteria
Preferred Qualifications:
· Fundamental understanding of battery technology, and high-voltage safety and battery controls
· Solid understanding of engineering first principles and system engineering
· Understanding of BMS hardware and software system engineering
· Background with modeling and scripting tools like MATLAB and Python
· Ability to solve open-ended engineering problems using systems level thinking
Nice to Have:
· Experience defining test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing data
· Background with data query and analysis tools like SQL and Tableau
· Experience performing or participating in DFMEA and building DVP&R for high voltage batteries
Education:
· Field(s) of study: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field
· Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program at an accredited university
· Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS)
Program Information:
· Timing: May- August, or June-September pending class schedules.
· Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.
· Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work.
· Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $40 to $60.
· Relocation: May be provided on a case to case basis.
· Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.
· Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check.
· Drug Screening: All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen.
