The IT Intern will experience Nelnet’s business and culture through hands-on work experiences across our IT teams. This position will analyze, recommend, and drive process improvements across a broad scope of IT teams and departments. This position will accomplish tasks and activities related to goals, plans, and competencies agreed upon by the Intern and his/her assigned supervisor.
This position requires work in support of the Company’s contract with the United States Department of Education (“ED”). As such, the United States Government requires that any applicant for this position must complete United States Government security clearance. Effective June 1, 2018, ED has informed Nelnet that security clearance applications for foreign nationals are not being accepted or processed. In light of this direction from ED, Nelnet will be unable to hire applicants without United States citizenship for such positions.
1. Identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends across a variety of data sets and formats.
2. Drive and implement improvements in IT operations in reporting, cost analysis, and processes.
3. Coordinate with our leadership and IT technical teams in identifying, recommending, and coordinating process improvement efforts.
4. Provide ad-hoc review, analysis and training as requested.
EDUCATION: 1. Enrolled in courses and actively pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Finance or related field(s). 2. Minimum Junior status in field of study. COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES: 1. Demonstrated energy, drive, and motivation.
2. Demonstrated ability to improve productivity.
3. Excellent communication (verbal, written and interpersonal), with the ability to interact effectively with other teams/departments.
4. Excellent presentation skills and report package development.
5. Flexibility to embrace challenges, handle pressure, and execute relentlessly.
6. Strong skills in analytic problem solving, including the ability to consistently produce timely, accurate and insightful analysis.
7. Excellent accountability, efficiency, and time management with managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced dynamic environment with ever-shifting priorities.
8. High degree of discretion.
9. Strong MS Excel skills, preferred experience with VBA and macros. Proficiency in MS Word
Compensation range for this internship is $18-$24 per hour depending on experience.
