DescriptionIn the Energy Storage team, we help our customers to develop, approve, finance, build and operate renewable energy projects by using our technical skills to conduct technical due diligence reviews and perform independent or owner’s engineering services.
We’re a team of engineers with a knack for understanding the real-world implications of our technical reviews and communicating this to a wide range of stakeholders. Along with our DNV colleagues and counterparts from all over the world we work on projects across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
We are busy, and so we are looking for a Senior Engineering Consultant based in Shanghai or Guangzhou to join our Energy Storage team, who will report to our Head of Section for Energy Storage in the APAC region.
These are some of the services that our Energy Storage team is responsible for delivering:
- Undertake Manufacturer Bankability Assessments and perform Technology Evaluations to assess compliance to standards and fire safety.
- Review technical aspects of Energy Storage projects to identify risks, engineering design issues and contractual non-compliances
- Support Project Procurement process including technology comparison, Employer’s Requirements, and contract negotiations.
- Undertake site visits to construction and operational renewable energy sites, for construction monitoring, witnessing of commissioning and testing as well as milestone sign off.
- Nurture customer relationships, creating proposals for new opportunities and managing projects through to timely completion.
- Work with DNV counterparts across the world to ensure we’re abreast of global issues related to all energy storage aspects of renewable projects.

QualificationsWhat is required
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering or technical degree qualification – preferably electrical engineering
Knowledge, skills, and experience required for the position are:
- Strong Knowledge and understanding of energy storage systems
- Project development or EPC and O&M experience with energy storage and/or renewables
- Understanding of the necessary standards, codes, and regulations for BESS system design, installation, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning.
- Good understanding of the commercial basis for projects
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong competence in proposal & report writing, ensuring clear and accurate reports are produced
- Strong communication, interpersonal, relationship and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to handle the complex (technical) problems and be able to guide individuals through these.
- Experience of building long-term client relationships
- Ability to juggle and manage conflicting work priorities to ensure deadlines are met
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues in a team environment; shares knowledge, experience and information; and supports others in pursuit of team goals
- Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
Physical abilities require for the position are:
- Normal office environment, involving regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching.
- Some domestic and international travel to other company office locations, site locations, client offices and conferences.
- Occasional work outdoors including site visits, travelling by car up to six hours and walking on uneven terrain may be required.
What is preferred:
Experience in, or familiarity with, any of the following would be great, but not essential:
- Project management skills and experience
- Experience of working for a consultancy firm
- Experience of contributing to industry working groups and related networking activities
- Experience in grid scale energy storage technologies other than batteries
- Experience of presenting at industry events
- Experience with building and maintaining professional relationships with customers
- Experience in developing proposals for work, including budgets, appropriate contractual terms, and undertaking negotiations on scope and price with customers.
