Job Description
Project Finance Associate - Solar & BESS
Location: Utrecht, Netherlands (On-site)
Job Type: Full-Time
Overview
Are you a finance professional with two to four years of experience in advisory, banking, or a Big 4 environment, looking to take ownership of projects rather than just supporting them? We are seeking a Project Finance Associate to join a dynamic and growing independent power producer specializing in the development, financing, and operation of solar and battery storage (BESS) projects in the Netherlands.
This is a unique opportunity to step out of a deal team and into a role where the projects are yours to manage. The company retains ownership of its assets, meaning the financing decisions you make will have a lasting impact on the business.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage financial models to appraise, structure, and refinance solar and BESS projects.
- Lead projects through the final stages to financial close, working closely with the team.
- Analyze Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and other project contracts, supporting negotiations and comparing terms.
- Collaborate with banks and utilities on project and balance-sheet financing, from term sheet negotiations to financial close.
- Structure financing for battery storage additions to existing projects, navigating existing facilities.
- Represent the company in discussions with banks, offtakers, and advisers, progressively taking on more responsibility in these conversations.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Dutch (able to negotiate and read documentation) and strong English skills.
- Approximately three years of experience in project finance, infrastructure or transaction advisory, corporate finance, or a finance role within a renewable energy business.
- Advanced Excel modeling skills, including the ability to build financial models from scratch.
- Familiarity with Dutch renewable energy assets, including an understanding of SDE++ subsidies and grid connection terms as they relate to financing cases. Experience with solar, wind, or other renewable technologies is welcome; prior battery storage experience is not required.
- A detail-oriented approach to reviewing contracts and the ability to identify terms that impact financial outcomes.
- The confidence to work independently without a review layer, coupled with the judgment to escalate issues when necessary.
- An interest in project development and the flexibility to take on development-related tasks as the team expands.
Benefits
- Competitive Salary: Approximately €70,000, depending on experience.
- Ownership from Day One: Manage your own projects and engage directly with lenders, gaining hands-on experience that goes beyond typical deal team roles.
- Hybrid Work Environment: Work 3 to 4 days per week in the Utrecht office, with the flexibility to work remotely or travel as needed.
- Flat, Informal Culture: Join a small, young team with no rigid reporting layers or bureaucratic processes.
- Purpose-Driven Work: Contribute to renewable energy projects that prioritize biodiversity and local community participation, not just financial yield.
If you are ready to take the next step in your career and make a meaningful impact in the renewable energy sector, we would love to hear from you.
