Print Sustainability Leader, Imaging & Printing Solutions
Description -
Location: Singapore (based in HP's Sustainability Center of Excellence, Singapore)
Reports to: President of CPSS, hosted function with responsibilities across Core & Industrial Print.
Direct Reports: Senior Manager, Competitive Intelligence & Product Teardowns (Consumer & SMB), plus additional sustainability program/strategy leads as the COE scales Team (via direct + dotted line): 10+ across strategy, competitive intelligence, and program management
About the Role
HP's Print & Imaging business is looking for a Director to own the vision, strategy, and execution of Sustainability as a competitive differentiator across the global Print & Imaging business. This leader will drive the shift from static, compliance-driven sustainability reporting toward an agentic, AI-enabled model of real-time optimization across the print product lifecycle — and will establish Singapore as HP's global hub for sustainability innovation in Print.
This is a strategy-and-execution role: the Director sets the multi-year sustainability vision for Print, translates it into concrete workstreams and MBOs across the organization, and ensures every major product and go-to-market decision is informed by credible carbon, circularity, and competitive data. Transition Print sustainability from an operational cost ("tax") into a market differentiator for the future of work — moving from static compliance reporting to agentic sustainability with real-time optimization of the print lifecycle. Strategic outcome: drive sustainability as a market differentiator for Print, not a cost center.
The Director will directly oversee the Print’s Sustainability Center of Excellence in Singapore and ensure HP's understanding of its own sustainability position is always grounded in rigorous, side-by-side benchmarking against Epson, Canon, Brother, and other competitors.
Partnering with GPC&SI, this role
- Feed Print-specific carbon, circularity, and competitive data into GPC&SI's enterprise-wide reporting, keeping what Print reports consistent with what HP discloses externally
- Translate enterprise goals (HP's 2030 Sustainable Impact Goals, 2040 Net Zero ambition) into Print-specific strategy, product requirements, and competitive positioning
- Partner with GPC&SI on regulatory readiness and market access issues affecting Print (e.g., Ecodesign, energy labeling, extended producer responsibility), owning Print's execution and competitive response
Why This Role Matters
Print Sustainability is expanding compliance obligation to a genuine source of competitive advantage. This Director will define what that shift looks like in practice — building the data infrastructure, service models, and Singapore-based innovation hub that let HP tell a credible, differentiated sustainability story versus Epson, Canon, Brother, and others, while directly overseeing the competitive intelligence function that keeps that story honest and current.
Strategic Pillars
1. AI-Driven Operational Efficiency
- Migrate all sustainability reporting off the legacy SIRA platform onto a federated "Gold Layer" data lake, built with Engineering Operations
- Champion HP PowerSmart and Print Energy Intelligence capabilities
- Drive automated Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) for real-time carbon and circularity insights
- Enable precision sourcing through ML-based optimization of carbon, circularity, and cost trade-offs
- Target outcomes: shorter R&D cycles, minimized waste, and reduced reliance on "green premium" pricing
- Key dependency: embedding AI agents across Operations and Supply Chain
2. "As-a-Service" Circularity & Carbon
- Lead the shift from product ownership to performance-based, "as-a-service" models
- Own next-gen SMB Managed Print Services ("Light MPS 2.0") — circular subscriptions where HP retains ownership
- Drive print hardware renewal programs for SMB customers
- Sponsor AI-personalized take-back and trade-in programs driven by predictive device health monitoring
- Working with R&D, develop Engineering sandbox to testbed Print innovations
- Win-win: lower customer TCO, higher HP margins through extended asset longevity
3. Singapore Sustainability Center of Excellence
- Build and lead Singapore as HP's global hub for sustainability innovation in Print
- Establish a modular "pod" team structure organized by customer segment (Consumer, SMB, Enterprise)
- Anchor the Consumer, SMB & Enterprise CoE with competitive labs, in partnership with the CI & Teardowns team
- Build out an Agentic Automation Hub and Compliance Automation capability within the COE
- Leverage Singapore's local talent pool, tax incentives, and government grant programs to fund and scale the COE
- Develop scalable sustainability solutions in Singapore and export them WW
Key Responsibilities
Sustainability Strategy & Innovation Leadership
- Drive sustainability strategy and innovation across Print Products and Services, in partnership with the Print divisions
- Own the multi-year vision, evolving it as regulatory, competitive, and technology conditions shift
- Set direction for L2/L3/L4 leaders across the Climate, Human Experience, and Digital Equity pillars
- Guide what cross-functional teams deliver each year, including their MBOs
Program Governance & Financial Stewardship
- Steward sustainability spend with discipline, keeping a clear line of sight to the business benefit it delivers to Print
- Aggregate inputs across teams and initiatives into one holistic sustainability narrative, tracking progress against goals
- Own the tools and processes that bring the sustainability story to customers, channel partners, and internal stakeholders
Competitive & Market Positioning
- Directly manage the COE's Competitive Intelligence & Product Teardowns lab (Consumer & SMB), ensuring the CI lab network (Singapore, Bangalore, Vancouver, Korea) treats sustainability benchmarking — carbon, materials, circularity, certifications — as a first-class output alongside cost and technology teardowns
- Sharpen HP's product positioning, roadmap decisions, and public claims versus Epson, Canon, Brother, and emerging players using competitive sustainability intelligence
- Feed sustainability findings directly into product design and go-to-market strategy
Corporate Alignment, Compliance & Market Access
- Keep Print's data, disclosures, and narrative consistent with — and contributing to — company-wide ESG reporting
- Balance corporate sustainability ambition against Print's practical realities, making pragmatic trade-offs where the two diverge
- Ensure Print products, services, and solutions meet regulatory requirements (e.g., EU Ecodesign, energy labeling, extended producer responsibility, right-to-repair) across HP's markets
- Own market access risk, ensuring compliance and certification requirements are met so Print products sell without disruption globally undefined
Cross-Functional Innovation
- Drive sustainability-linked innovation with R&D, Supply Chain, and other key partners
- Build sustainability requirements into the innovation pipeline early enough to deliver genuine customer value - not bolted on to satisfy compliance alone
- When customer value and compliance/market-access needs compete for resources, make the prioritization call and communicate the rationale
- Partner with R&D and Supply Chain to turn sustainability innovation (materials, circularity, energy efficiency) into product differentiation rather than added cost
Communications & Brand
- Leverage sustainability data and competitive positioning in outbound communications at both brand and product level
- Partner with Marketing to develop and execute the strategic marketing plan for Print sustainability
- Deliver executive-level briefings and represent Print Sustainability in customer, partner, and internal forums
Team & Organizational Leadership
- Lead exec review; Manage the Senior Manager, Competitive Intelligence & Product Teardowns, and grow the Singapore COE team over time
- Recruit, develop, and retain talent with the strategic, technical, and AI/data capabilities the function needs
- Represent Print Sustainability in senior leadership and cross-functional governance forums
What We're Looking For
- 12+ years of experience in sustainability, ESG, environmental strategy, or related fields, with meaningful exposure to hardware, consumer electronics, or manufacturing industries; print/imaging experience a strong plus
- 5+ years of people leadership experience at exec level, including managing managers and/or distributed global teams
- Track record of building or scaling a sustainability function, center of excellence, or comparable strategic program from the ground up
- Experience partnering with or overseeing competitive intelligence, product benchmarking, or technical analysis functions
- Familiarity with lifecycle assessment (LCA), carbon accounting, circular economy business models, and "as-a-service"/subscription models
- Strong knowledge of the Print business preferred — e.g., hardware and supplies/consumables economics, Managed Print Services, channel and go-to-market dynamics, and the competitive landscape (Epson, Canon, Brother, and others)
Skills
- Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to translate a multi-year vision into concrete, measurable workstreams and MBOs
- Working knowledge of how AI/ML and automation apply to sustainability data (federated data lakes, automated LCA, predictive asset health monitoring, agentic automation)
- Financial acumen — able to rigorously evaluate sustainability spend against business benefit
- Excellent storytelling and executive communication skills; able to aggregate complex, cross-functional data into a single compelling narrative
- Comfortable operating at both strategic (vision, board/exec narrative) and operational (MBOs, program tracking) altitude
- Strong stakeholder management across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Sales, and Compliance
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, sustainability-focused graduate program) preferred
