Control Systems Engineer
We are currently seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join a mining owner/operator in WA. This is an opportunity to get in early as they look to bring engineering capability in-house.
This position will commence as a short-term contract, with the potential for extension based on project requirements and performance. It offers an excellent opportunity to work on a range of operational and project-based automation initiatives within a technically diverse environment.
The role will suit an engineer with hands-on experience in PLC, SCADA and instrumentation systems who enjoys a mix of design, troubleshooting, commissioning and operational support. Working alongside electrical, operations and project teams, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving plant automation systems across a range of brownfield projects for two process plants in WA.

Responsibilities

Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC programs using Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 platforms.

Configure, maintain and support Citect SCADA and Plant SCADA systems.

Perform instrumentation configuration, calibration, loop checking and fault finding activities.

Support site commissioning activities, shutdowns and operational improvement projects.

Diagnose and resolve issues associated with PLCs, SCADA systems, field instrumentation and industrial communication networks.

Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, control schematics, single-line diagrams and I/O drawings.

Assist in the development and maintenance of technical documentation including:

Work closely with operations and maintenance personnel to optimize plant performance and reliability.
Experience & Skills
-
3-5 years' experience in mining, mineral processing, manufacturing or heavy industrial environments.

Practical experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs using Studio 5000.

Experience supporting Citect SCADA and/or Plant SCADA systems.

Strong understanding of industrial control systems and instrumentation.

Ability to interpret P&IDs, control schematics and electrical drawings.

Experience with commissioning, shutdown support and troubleshooting within operating facilities.

Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP and Modbus.

Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable Experience

Experience with PowerFlex, Danfoss or similar VSD platforms.

Experience with motor management and overload protection systems including E300 and TeSys T.

Understanding of safety systems, interlocks and plant protection philosophies.

Exposure to industrial networking, managed switches and network architecture.

Knowledge of alarm management, historians and process trending systems.

Experience working with conveyors, crushers, pumps, stackers, reclaimers or similar mining equipment.

Exposure to FAT, SAT and commissioning activities.

Basic understanding of MCCs and industrial power distribution systems.

Exposure to GE, Emerson or Siemens automation platforms would be advantageous.
Qualifications

Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Systems or Automation Engineering.
