Legal Counsel – Renewable Energy

Salary: £85,000 – £105,000 + Bonus & Benefits
Sector: Renewable Energy / Energy Infrastructure
We are working with an established and growing renewable energy business looking to strengthen its in-house legal function with the appointment of a Legal Counsel in London.
The organisation develops, invests in and delivers major renewable energy and infrastructure projects across the UK and Europe and is continuing to expand its project portfolio.
Working closely with the General Counsel, commercial teams and senior business stakeholders, the Legal Counsel will provide commercially focused legal support across project development, construction, operations and corporate activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial and project agreements.
- Advise on EPC, construction, supply, O&M, consultancy and services contracts.
- Support project development, procurement and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide legal advice relating to contractual risk, liability, warranties, indemnities and insurance.
- Assist with negotiations involving contractors, suppliers, developers, investors and project partners.
- Support corporate transactions, joint ventures and project acquisitions where required.
- Provide advice on disputes, claims and potential contractual exposure.
- Work alongside external legal advisers on specialist matters.
- Develop and maintain contract templates, policies and internal legal processes.
- Provide pragmatic legal guidance to commercial and operational stakeholders across the business.
Experience Required
We are interested in speaking with UK-qualified solicitors with:
- Approximately 4–8 years' PQE, although candidates outside this range will also be considered.
- Strong commercial contracts, projects, construction or energy experience.
- Experience gained within a respected law firm, in-house legal team or a combination of both.
- Confidence negotiating complex commercial agreements.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic rather than purely technical legal advice.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Previous experience within renewable energy, conventional power, infrastructure, construction, utilities or major engineering projects would be highly advantageous.
Exposure to areas such as solar, offshore/onshore wind, BESS, grid connections, hydrogen or other energy transition technologies would also be welcomed.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will join a highly visible legal function with direct exposure to senior leadership and major investment and infrastructure projects.
It offers the opportunity to move beyond traditional legal advisory work and become closely involved in the commercial and strategic delivery of renewable energy projects across the UK and Europe.
