The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a growing commercial consultancy in Glasgow, supporting the delivery of major renewable energy and grid infrastructure projects across Scotland and the wider UK.
This is a contract opportunity operating Outside IR35, working within a consultancy environment and providing commercial and cost management support across a portfolio of energy infrastructure projects.
The role would suit a degree-qualified Quantity Surveyor with experience across renewable energy, power, utilities, grid infrastructure or major civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide commercial and quantity surveying support across renewable energy and grid infrastructure projects.
- Manage project costs from pre-contract through construction and final account.
- Prepare and manage cost plans, budgets, forecasts and cash flows.
- Undertake measurement and preparation of Bills of Quantities / pricing documentation.
- Support procurement activities, including tender preparation, analysis and contractor recommendations.
- Prepare, review and administer contracts and subcontract documentation.
- Assess contractor applications for payment and prepare payment recommendations.
- Manage variations, compensation events and change control.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets and forecasts.
- Undertake commercial risk and opportunity management.
- Prepare monthly commercial and cost reports for clients.
- Support contract administration across major infrastructure packages.
- Manage claims, contractual notices and commercial correspondence where required.
- Negotiate and agree variations and final accounts.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors and client commercial teams.
- Provide commercial advice to clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and ensure appropriate contractual procedures are followed.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience working as a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction or infrastructure.
- Strong commercial and contract management capability.
- Experience managing variations, valuations, cost reporting, forecasting and final accounts.
- Good understanding of construction contracts, ideally including NEC forms of contract.
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills.
- Able to operate independently within a consultancy/client-side environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Previous experience within one or more of the following would be particularly advantageous:
- Renewable energy
- Grid infrastructure
- Transmission & distribution
- Substations
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Solar PV
- Onshore wind
- HV electrical infrastructure
- Utilities
- Major civil engineering / infrastructure
Candidates do not necessarily need experience across every technology. Strong Quantity Surveying experience within energy, utilities, power or infrastructure projects would be highly relevant.
