How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Law Clerk is responsible for coordinating, drafting, filing, and administering legal services related to all real estate transactions, contracts and agreements, litigation and administrative proceedings for TRCA.
Major Responsibilities:
Prepares leases for TRCA properties, including agricultural leases, facilities leases and agreements for conservation lands managed by third parties ensuring correct information
Drafts and registers closing documents, including preparation of acknowledgement and directions for all real estate transactions
Conducts title searches and off-title searches, registering site plan agreements, easements and restrictions on title and searches in respect of Construction Act liens
Drafts easement agreements, encroachment agreements and restrictive covenants, and maintains precedent file for such documents
Prepares, maintains and updates document templates within the procurement and agreement database, and provides support to staff
Provides support to client divisions with respect to preparation and execution of contracts and other agreements
Incumbents may also be assigned other duties
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
Post-secondary diploma or degree for Law Clerks, or equivalent education and work experience
Valid Ontario Class G2 driver’s license
Experience
3+ years of experience in a law firm or legal department dealing with real estate, litigation, planning and development
Demonstrated experience in closing real estate transactions, managing Teraview account and subscription, combined with a thorough working knowledge of land development process and procedures
Knowledge and experience working with both Registry and Land Title systems
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
Knowledge of real estate matters, including conveyancing, property surveys, requisitions, title searches, as well as familiarity with the Land Registry Act, Land Titles Act and Planning Act, Construction Act
Familiarity with databases for managing templates/agreements and content management software
Experience drafting contracts and agreements
Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines
Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate clearly using discretion, tact and courtesy and able to present/enable non-legal informed others to understand legal/technical information
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint)
