Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, the Colorscape Nursery Guest Services greets and assists customers of the Jekyll Island Authority’s Nursery with the selection and purchase of plants, ornamental trees and shrubs. Assists with upkeep of plant material and maintains cleanliness and organization of the Nursery. Operates point-of-sale system for retail sales. This position is part-time and will be scheduled up to 30 hours, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday typically between 7:30am and 4pm. Occassional Saturday hours may also be scheduled.
Description:
- Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills, responds to customer inquiries in a professional manner.
- Operates point of sale system for retail sales of nursery including annual and perennial plants and ornamental trees and shrubs.
- Deposits all receipts, completes verification of deposit records, and ensures all monies are accounted for.
- Assists with upkeep of plant material by pruning, thinning, and weeding.
- Load and offload nursery supplies, including plants, mulch, topsoil, soil amendments, etc.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of nursery site.
- Maintains basic knowledge of plant material within the nursery.
- Provides visitors with information in a helpful and courteous manner.
- Participates in training activities to optimize customer service skills.
- Restock inventory and maintain clean and orderly sales floor.
- Assists with special projects as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Two years retail/customer service experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of plant materials required, experience in horticultural industry preferred.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office preferred.
- Strong communication skills, ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must be available Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday days. Occassional Saturday hours may also be scheduled.
- Reliable and predictable attendance and punctuality required.
- Drivers license required.
- Credit and Criminal background check required.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- More than 50% of a typical workday will be spent walking, standing, balancing (standing on and using 1-2 steps), reaching, lifting, using fingers to handle objects such as money, and using repetitive motions of the wrist, hands and fingers.
- Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday will be spent stooping (bending at the waist), kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling.
- Less than 25% of the day is spent sitting.
- Sensory abilities required include vision, hearing and touching with more than 50% of the day spent communicating: talking and hearing.
- Must have visual clarity to prepare and analyze data and figures, use the computer/tablet.
- Majority of work is performed outside. Work performed may be subject to extreme heat and adverse weather including rain and/or cold temperatures.
- Noise level is considered normal to loud.
- Work is subjected to hazards; moving vehicles.
- May be subjected to atmospheric conditions such as odors, dusts, and mists.
