We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Environmental Officer to join our Durban Tank Terminal team. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, promote a strong safety culture, and help maintain a safe working environment for all employees. The role reports to the Operations Manager.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Record keeping and monitoring of Health & Safety site and operations inspections
- Conduct and assist annual Task Based Risk Assessment
- Assist with incident investigations and training of staff
- Review of incidents / accidents
- Manage the Health & Safety Management System (inspections / procedures / training etc.)
- Monitor and arrange site training needs as well as appointing staff in their duties related to the OHSA requirements and other relevant regulations
- yearly HSE Representative elections to be arranged, elected staff certified and appointed
- Arrange and record keeping of Site Inductions for visitors as well as staff refresher Inductions
- Compile minutes and arrange safety committee meetings
- Arrange Occupational Health Surveys as required, review and arrange implementation of recommendations
- Arrange and monitor staff medicals
- Incident investigation, monitoring and reporting internally as well as externally
- Control of contractors / sub-contractors as well as ensuring they comply with FFS standard based on written procedure CP14
- Ordering, issuing and record keeping of staff PPE
- Ensure overall site compliance with the OHS / ISGOTT/OCIMF/SANS/NFPA Act & Regulations
- Ensure compliance with all operational permits and licence requirements
- Assist in MHI Risk Assessment reviews, implementation of any recommendations, notification of local authorities and ensure site MHI registration as per MHI regulations
- Daily HSE walks to ensure site compliant to FFS standard
- Isometrix champion
- Implement and review the annual HSE plan
- Assist in Hazop reviews
- Assist / Initiate Management of Change documentation
- Assist during the commissioning process of a project and ensure the Pre-Safety Start document is completed
- Initiate the commodities application to TNPA and supply all supporting documents as requested
- Champion Annual TNPA audits
- Ensure that SDS’s are updated in line with the GHS system
- Perform annually the Terminal self-assessment
- Champions Behaviour Base Safety Initiatives
- Ensure quarterly Emergency Response Drills are conducted
- Completes the HSE terminal performance report and monthly highlights
- Attends all SHREQ TNPA meetings
- Review and Approval of Contractors Safety file
