Introduction

Our client designs and fabricates custom-built processing equipment for specialised industrial applications. They are looking to appoint a Planner to manage the purchasing and procurement requirements generated from engineering drawings, and to coordinate closely with subcontractors across machining, rolling, laser cutting and other specialised processes.

This is not a typical planning role – the successful candidate will work directly from engineering drawings to determine material and purchasing requirements, and will take ownership of the relationships with subcontractors that keep production moving.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Drawing Review & Material Planning

Review engineering drawings and generate accurate material schedules.
Maintain and update the drawing register.
Issue drawings via the drawing register and ensure drawings are correctly filed.
Generate schedules for spares.
Make up stock items for standard stock (e.g. hose tails, swing bolts, nameplates).

Procurement & Subcontractor Liaison

Raise purchase orders and liaise directly with subcontractors for machining, rolling, laser cutting and dished ends.
Raise purchase orders for electrical subcontractors, transport and additional services.
Provide back-up cover for consumables buying when required.

Registers, Stock & Compliance

Maintain the laser cutting and flexible hose registers.
Manage calibration of gauges and strong room equipment.
Generate return schedules and plan delivery/collection routes as required.
Carry out etching of flexible hoses.

Audits & Continuous Improvement

Conduct internal audits.
Conduct supplier audits.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Candidate Requirements

We are specifically looking for a candidate who can work confidently from engineering drawings and manage multiple tasks while maintaining timelines of the deliverables.

Essential:

Grade 12 / Matric.
Proven experience in a planning, procurement or buying role within an engineering, fabrication or manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and translate them into accurate material and purchasing requirements.
Solid working knowledge of purchase order processes and subcontractor/supplier management.
Computer literacy (MS Office) and experience working with an ERP system.
Valid driver's licence.
Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail.
Confident communicator, able to liaise directly with subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
