We’re looking for a Project Engineer who will play a key technical role in the design and execution of electrical power system projects, including new installations, upgrades, and retrofits. This position combines hands-on electrical design with project oversight and vendor coordination, ensuring all engineering, review, and integration activities meet technical specifications, project objectives, and client requirements. The Project Engineer collaborates closely with internal design teams, field personnel, and external partners to deliver safe, high-quality, and cost-effective solutions.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and analyze electrical power systems and equipment for substations, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, and circuit breakers.
- Develop detailed electrical specifications, drawings, and control schematics for protective relaying, power distribution, and substation equipment.
- Perform system studies, including short-circuit, coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis, using industry-standard software.
- Develop relay settings for electromechanical and microprocessor-based relays.
- Review and approve vendor design packages, drawings, and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project and industry standards.
- Coordinate across engineering, procurement, and project management teams to align design deliverables and ensure project requirements are met.
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning phases, including site visits and issue resolution.
- Participate in design reviews, client meetings, and technical discussions to support successful project execution.
- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and compliance standards throughout all phases of the project.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
The Experience We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline highly preferred.
- 5-10+ years of relevant experience in electrical design, power system engineering, or project engineering roles.
- Familiarity with power system modeling and analysis tools such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or EasyPower.
- Skilled in AutoCAD or similar design software for creating and reviewing electrical drawings and schematics.
- Strong understanding of power system protection, substation design, grounding, and wiring methods.
- Experience reviewing vendor drawings, technical specifications, and test documentation.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills for interfacing with clients, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities with the capacity to handle multiple projects concurrently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for reporting and documentation.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a strong customer focus and the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills, demonstrating a capacity for managing multiple priorities and driving project success.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to travel up to 10% throughout the continental USA, reflecting flexibility and commitment to project needs.
- Ability to pass a stringent drug screening and background check, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and policies.
- Hold a valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record, demonstrating reliability and adherence to safety regulations.
